A lot of singers manage to transition from the music industry to the acting industry. However, they still do not make the latter their main profession. The opposite is generally unfeasible. Emily Blunt is one of the most established actresses in the world. However, she once revealed in an interview that things could have been very different, had she not listened to the advice of Judi Dench earlier in her career.
Emily Blunt could’ve been the next Britney Spears
Once onJimmy Kimmel Live, Emily Blunt appeared as the guest star, and the host, Jimmy Kimmel raised the topic of how the actress has a lovely singing voice. The English actress tried her best to avoid discussing a potential music career but eventually had to answer Kimmel’s questions. Kimmel was talking about the time when the actress once almost jumped into the world of music and became a pop star.
Emily Bluntsaid, “I could’ve been Britney.” Kimmel further went on to ask the actress why she chose to not be a pop star. Blunt responded,
“Because I realized that I am not good at dancing and I didn’t want to be Britney, I don’t know. I don’t want to tell you too much because I feel like someone is going to find these songs I recorded.”
Emily Blunt revealed that she even has a song,Ring It Up,which she will regrettably never release.
Judi Dench advised theOppenheimeractress against having a music career
Emily Blunt talked about how she decided to pursue becoming a pop star despite not knowing how to dance. She was also advised against having a career as both a singer and an actress by Judi Dench when she first worked with the actress onThe Royal Family,back in 2001.
Kimmel asked Blunt about what happened after she was asked to sing the songRing It Up.The actress replied,
“They said ‘I think you have a nice voice and I think you could be a pop star.’ I said, ‘I can’t dance.’ They said, ‘Don’t worry about it, we’ll teach you.’ It didn’t work. I tried to learn and then I was doing a play…my first job was with Judi Dench, the Dame which was incredible and she was wonderful to me.
I went to her for advice because I was really really nervous about this career that I didn’t know was right for me and she said, ‘Oh no darling, you can’t do both. You can’t act and do that.'”
Although we would never know how Emily Blunt would have been as a pop star, it is safe to say that Judi Dench gave her the right advice. Blunt went on to become one of the most successful actresses in the industry.
