Back in 2014, Matt Damon got unknowingly dragged into a prank war between hisOcean’s Elevenco-star George Clooney, and30 Rockalum Tina Fey. After Fey and Amy Poehler made joking remarks at the Golden Globes that Clooney would rather float into space and die than spend time with a woman his own age, the acclaimed actor vowed revenge.

Unfortunately for Damon, in Clooney’s elaborate scheme to prank Fey and Poehler,The Martianstar had to take the bullet without his knowledge, as he recalled receiving an aggressive letter from Fey.

Matt Damon Became a Scapegoat in George Clooney’s Elaborate Prank
During his appearance onTheLate Show,Matt Damondetailed the incident to David Letterman as he read the letter he received from Tina Fey, courtesy of George Clooney’s prank. Damon revealed receiving two giant fruit baskets with two letters attached, one of them being an apology from Fey, following her jokes about Damon at the Award Ceremony. Damon quickly realized Clooney might’ve sent a wounder letter to her by signing Damon’s name, which Fey too suspected was the case, as the second letter wasn’t quite friendly. Damon read (viaTHR):
“If your note is part of some George Clooney prank, as I very strongly suspect it is, you A-list amateurs are going to have to step it the f— up. We are not some easily confused starlets here. We are grown-a–, professional comedians. Please accept this fruit as a token of our sincerity. Best wishes, Elizabeth Tina Fey, Amy ‘Boston’ Poehler.”

Clooney did later come forward to confirm the speculations, as he detailed how he pulled out the prank.

George Clooney Detailed the Letter He Sent to Tina Fey
During his appearance at the SiriusXM Town Hall event,George Clooneydetailed his elaborate plan and the letter he sent in Tina Fey’s way by signing Damon’s name, stating,
“I sent her a letter saying, Dear Tina, listen, it’s from Matt, and it just says, ‘Look, it sounds hypocritical because I laughed at the jokes about George and Leo, but you know, that’s sort of what people think about them. But when you called me a garbage man, it just seemed like low hanging fruit, it just seemed like an easy joke. And you know, I don’t want an apology, I don’t want anything else, I just want you to know that my kid now calls me the garbage man.’”

While getting pulled into Clooney’s prank resulted in him taking massive heat, at the time, Damon also stressed that he had no idea how many more letters with his name were still out there.
