The Chimera Ant arc ofHunter x Hunterwas one of the masterpieces by Yoshihiro Togashi. From Kite’s sacrifice to Meruem’s death scene, everything clicked right in place. But Togashi completely ignored one twist that could have altered the pace of the series altogether.

After Kite’s death, Gon was adamant to kill Neferpitou, and it even led him to transform into the older and taller version of himself. But maybe a different ending to the battle was required to push the series to greatness.

Yoshihiro Togashi Should Have Killed Gon inHunter x Hunter

Gon vowed to killNeferpitou after the latter mercilessly ended the life of Kite, who Gon was extremely attached to. Kite had the misfortune of touching Neferpitou’s En but immediately realized how strong his opponent was. Rather than escaping himself, he distracted Neferpitou to let Gon and Killua run away, which ended up being the reason for his death.

Even though Kite was dead, Neferpitou led Gon to believe that he was alive. When Gon finally realized that Kite was gone, he began to weep in deep despair and anger. He vowed to kill Neferpitou no matter what happened to him and was enveloped in a dark aura. He ended up killing Neferpitou, but maybe Togashi should have let Gon perish in the arc instead.

Gon was ready to die while battling Neferpitou, and if he had, it would have been a poetic end while trying to avenge Kite.Narutofans often hateMasashi Kishimotofor hissenseless killing of Neji, but even that outcome is better thanYoshihiro Togashitaking the easier route.

Why Killing Gon Could Have TakenHunter x Hunterto the Next Level

Meruem’s death was one of the most emotional scenes inHunter x Hunter. He died while playing Gungi with Komugi, and despite warning her, she did not leave his side. Komugi died shortly afterward as the poison spread to her body from Meruem’s. Thus, the antagonist of the arc had a pure moment before his death. This could have been offset by Gon’s death in a state of immense rage against his opponent, Neferpitou.

If the protagonist had died in a malicious state of mind, it would have led to a never-before-seen ending. The other characters of the series would have been forced to react to his death, thus changing the course ofHunter x Hunter. It would have led the audience to see how Ging reacts toGon’s death. Would he have been sad, disappointed, or simply indifferent?

Gon’s death would have also edged Killua to despair, and his reaction would have been an even more devastating addition. Additionally, the protagonist would have died without ever attaining his goal, something that almost never happens in Shonen manga/anime. But the story could continue and evolve in the absence of Gon, making his death a major turning point.
