Elden Ring‘sShadow of the Erdtreeexpansion has managed to cement itself as the highest-rated DLC on some databases. It is considered to be one of the most impactful expansions ever and introduces a brand-new map and a wealth of new content, enhancing the base game’s core experience.
The DLC delves deep into the Land of Shadow, guided by Empyrean Miquella, and explores new storylines, enemies, and bosses. Despite that, it seems like the game has fumbled big time by missing the opportunity to explore one of the most mysterious relationships showcased in teaser images.

Elden Ring‘s incredible lore is detailed and intricate, partly due to contributions from Game of Thrones author, George R.R Martin. With the recent release ofShadow of the Erdtree, there’s one name on many gamer’s lips… Miquella. He’s the demigod known as an Empyrean, who can succeed Queen Marika as the vessel.

Despite the game’s latest DLC shedding lighton the Empyreans’ character, unanswered questions remain. One of the most hotly speculated topics about the Empyrean is his relationship with a particular Torrent, as shown in the DLC’s teaser images.
In the game, Torrent is a mount players can unlock as a consequence of making a deal with a strange figure, Melina. It stands as one of the best mounts in the game and is connected with many legendary characters.
Due to the mount’s popularity among the player base, many wonder why the Empyrean’s relationship with his mount wasn’t explored despite being shown in the game’s teasers.
Despite the DLC’s focus on the Empyrean, a lot of things around his character remain a mystery. We don’t know if the mount shown in teasers belonged to the Empyrean or if the developers simply wanted to trick gamers into believing that he had a clear connection with Ranni, Melina, and the Tarnished.
That’s not all; the Empyrean removing the veil wasn’t even present in the game. It’s still not known which outer gods chose him and if they had anything to do with his eternal youth curse.
Can Elden Ring Still Expand Miquella’s Lore With a DLC?
With the latest expansion focusing on Messmer’s character, it seems like game director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and his team ran out of time to dig into the Empyrean’s character. This has many in the community hoping his lore can be expanded with future DLCs and updates.

The company’s next major title remains a mystery, but gamers hope to see anElden Ringsequel. While we might not get DLCs for the base game, FromSoftware could always deliver a full-blown sequel of some kind featuring fan-favorite characters.
