During RGGSummit2022, two new games in the Yakuza series were officially confirmed. Yakuza: Like A Dragon 8 and a spin-off title, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, coming in 2024 and 2023, respectively.

The spinoff title will be centred around Kiryu Kazuma and will act as a bridge connecting the story of Yakuza 7 and Yakuza 8, but will be from Kiryu’s point of view.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon 8 is still in early development, with dialogue lines still being recorded by the team at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. In the upcoming sequel to Like A Dragon 7, Kiryu and Ichiban will be both the main protagonists, and RPG elements from its predecessor will make a comeback.

The reason for Kiryu’s changed hairstyle is yet to be revealed, but in general, everything around Kiryu is made intentionally mysterious for a purpose, which is why a spin-off title will be developed to tie up loose ends.

Kiryu Kazuma parted ways with the series after Yakuza 6, but did make a brief appearance in Yakuza 7 to assist the new main protagonist, Ichiban. His name was not even mentioned once, and appeared as though he was an entirely new character. This was because he adopted a new name as Joryu, as stated in the new trailer for the Gaiden spin-off game, The Man Who Erased His Name.

The Man Who Erased His Name will be released sometime in 2023, the same year as Yakuza Ishin. The latter will not only be the same experience with graphical improvements, but it will contain songs and characters from all the previous games, including Yakuza 5,6,7 and even Yakuza 0.

Both new Yakuza titles will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Kazuhiro Nakaya will be back to reprise his role as Kasuga Ichiban, and Takaya Kuroda will also be back again to lend his iconic voice to the returning protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu.

Following the announcement of two new Yakuza titles, the officialSEGA Twitter accountalso revealed that both Judgement and Lost Judgement would be available for PC players later today.
