One-handed swords often give a buff to your spells or deal feathering damage, but they are also powerful weapons that you may take advantage of if you want to stick to the physical damage types.
After messing around with the game’s many buffs, items, and weapons, I believe I have discovered the best one-handed sword builds in the game.
Best One-Handed Sword Build in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
For this build, I will be focusing on using a one-handed sword mostly, but will also take advantage of the buffs provided by other weapons and their skill trees. For instance, delving into the longsword or dual blade skill trees will grant extra Agility, enhancing the attack power of our one-handed swords.
This build also focuses on theuse of Temperanceand status effects to deal large amounts of damage to enemies.
Best Early-Game Weapon Choices
When it comes to the early game, there are only a few weapons to choose from. I began the journey byusing the Darkfrost Edge.This weapon offers a small increase to spell power and deals entirely physical damage.
As a secondary weapon, I focused on using Dual Blades. Specifically, I went with theFirearm Blades,which can be found near Shu Sanctum next to a pack of goblin-type enemies.
The reason for using two different weapon types is that the dual blades offer an advantage during combat, thanks to their ability to clash, granting a stack of Skyborn Might anytime a clash is performed. This allows you tostack Skyborn Mightto use for weapon abilities.
Best Late-Game Weapon Choices
Later in the game, when you reach the Snowfall Palace, you will be able to get this build’s shining star, theBoreal Abyss one-handed sword.This weapon is found in the treasure vault below the lift in the palace, where you fight yourInner Demon.
Boreal Abyss is one of the highest-damaging one-handed swords in the game, and deals entirely physical damage. It also has a unique weapon skill that lets you jump backwards to dodge an attack while also throwing out a fan of frostbite-inflicting daggers.

My secondary weapon remains theTwin Banditsdual blades. This is so I have a weapon that can block if needed. The block from the Twin Bandits dual blades can deflect attacks similar to a longsword, which is great for boss fights that require parrying,like Commander Honglan.
Best Upgrade Nodes
There are some main nodes that you will want to make sure you pick up for this build that I will detail below. Other than these nodes, you will want to make sure you grab any Agility node to increase your damage, enhance your one-handed swords via Red Feathers, and be sure to grab the Manna Vase upgrades.
Your main focus will be the one-handed sword path, along with the Illusive path, as these will enhance your one-handed sword abilities and allow you to gain more benefits from Temperance.
The purpose of this build is to stack Frostbite on an opponent to make them takestatus effect damagewhile also being fluid on the battlefield.

Wisdom: Wei - Counter Force
Increases the potency of counter moves.
Starting with your one-handed sword, focus on building up the Frostbite damage you deal. This will help knock down the enemy’s health faster and slow them down in the process.
For your dual blades, you will want to focus more on defense and striking back to get health. This is why the Benedictions increase your blocking abilities, counter moves, and grant leech life.
Don’t forget that the dual blades are your fallback weapon and not your main focus.

For this build, I utilize thePhoenix Pendant, Monkey Pendant, and Tiger Pendant.For starters, the Phoenix Pendant increases the ailment buildup of throw attacks, allowing the special skill of the Boreal Abyss one-handed sword to inflict more Frostbite buildup.

FromSoft may never drop the ball, but all those trying to follow their formula have done so with mixed results.
The Monkey Pendant increases the power of throwables, which enhances the damage done by the Boreal Abyss one-handed sword’s weapon skill, leading to more overall damage. Finally, the Tiger Pendant increases your overall physical damage.
If you want more damage, you can exchange the Monkey Pendant for the Unknown Meat Pendant. This will increase your damage even further, but requires you to remove all of your armor, which leaves you more vulnerable to attacks. I don’t recommend this unless you are good at dodging and aren’t afraid of taking more damage.
Best Supporting Spells
While this is not a magic build, it does help to have some supporting spells to further enhance your capabilities. I highly recommend using theEthereal Form spell. This will allow you to dodge attacks easily, helping you hit more and get more status effect damage.
I also recommend using theEcho of Liu Cheng’en.This ice-spell is great for stacking up Frostbite damage. It also helps to have theEcho of the Bo Sorcererspell, as this also deals a lot of Frostbite damage.
How To Use Build
This one-handed sword build is mostly focused onbuilding up status effects for larger damage numbersto rapidly destroy the enemy’s health. Get in close and use the Ethereal Form spell as a backup for when you need to dodge and build up Skyborn Might.
When you have a steady supply of Skyborn Might from attacks and dodging,use your Icebound Escape ability to dodge out of melee range and hit the enemy for a lot of damageand status effect buildup. It typically takes two or three uses to proc Frostbite using this ability, though spells can also proc it quickly.
When dealing with larger groups of enemies,the Echo of Liu Cheng’en is a great fallback thanks to its sweeping strikethat can hit a lot of enemies at once. Keep getting in close and backing out with your Icebound Escape ability to quickly deplete the enemy’s health bar and proc Frostbite consistently.
