Nintendo will hold in a few hours its special Nintendo Direct for E3 2021, and many fans believe this could be where a newFire Emblemwill be revealed, most notably a remake ofFire Emblem 4 Genealogy of the Holy War.
Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu, officially titledGenealogy of the Holy Warin English, was actually never released outside Japan. Just like everyFire Emblemgame untilFire EmblemThe Blazing Blade, also known asFire Emblem 6,released on Game Boy Advance in 2003.
Why would Nintendo announce a newFire Emblemgame?
Released in August 16, 2025,Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War, also known asFire Emblem 4, is the oldestFire Emblemgame that has yet to receive a remake.
Moreover, whenFire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valenciawas released on 3DS, Nintendo also specified thatEchoeswould be a series of remakes. I could definitely see anEchoesversion ofFire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy Warbeing announced soon.
Fire Emblem 4was also added to the Nintendo Switch Online list of playable Super Famicom games this June 09, 2025 in Japan, which feels like a sign to the fans.
CouldFire Emblemshow up at the Nintendo Direct E3 2021?
Moreover,Fire Emblemas a franchise is also currently livelier than ever, with the first game on Switch,Three Houses, breaking record sales for the series. And with good reason, as personally speaking, I believeThree Housesis one of the few games that actually managed to renew the series in a good way.
One particular example isFEThree Houses' extensive character development, which might not please every longtime fan seeing the dialogues are way longer than in any otherFire Emblem.Three Housesis also one of the onlyFire Emblemgames where the playable characters aren’t based on the series' molds of archetypes.
Similarly,Fire Emblem 4was also the first time the series went through huge changes, and is the game who introduced the model of a story spanning two eras, with a time skip and a children system. Personally speaking, while I do agree the “weeb” aspect of the series has been increased withAwakening, it’s important to note “husbandos” and “waifus” were always a thing inFire Emblem, especially inGenealogy of the Holy War, asAwakeningandFatessimply borrowed its marriage and children system.
Lastly,Fire Emblem 4is also unique in the series, with a completely different map system. The game features fewer, but much bigger maps than in the rest of the series, and It’ll be interesting to see it re-imagined in a remake.
