Just like other hero shooters, NetEase Games’Marvel Rivalsalso allows players to express themselves through unique banners a.k.a nameplates/ However, some basic nameplates can only be purchased using Units. A viral post has highlighted that NetEase Games could’ve just allowed players to unlock nameplates through progression.

Giving players the opportunity to unlock these unique items through progression would have encouraged players to spend more time playing the game with specific heroes. It makes sense why NetEase Games put these items behind a paywall as it aims to generate revenue through in-game purchases but some basic items should be unlocked by leveling up.
Even the basic nameplates inMarvel Rivalsare put behind a paywall
A viral post on r/marvelrivals has asked a really important question: Why do players have to pay for basic nameplates using Units? Players can access the Customize option by clicking on the Profile icon and in this tab, players will discover that some nameplates featuring heroes like Star-Lord, Groot, and Captain America, are only available for purchase using 150 Units. This is completelythe opposite of what NetEase Games had promisedin the past.
Most players have pointed out that basic character-specific nameplates like this should unlock via progression. This would also encourage players to level up in order to unlock unique rewards. Plus, this would also convince players to try out all the heroes in the game in order to unlock unique hero-specific items.

Marvel Rivals: A Handicap Is Needed for the Most Blood-Curdling Long Range Sniper Hero
Some players who have played the beta explained that these nameplates were initially unlocked via progression, however, it seems like the system was changed in the final version. Right now, it is odd that leveling up gives no rewards but this could be added in the future since NetEase has experimented with the idea in the past.
NetEase Games earns through in-game purchases
There are various ways to unlock items inMarvel Rivals, but almost all of them require you to pay first. Many free-to-play games have been using this concept and now, it seems likeMarvel Rivalsis also heading down that path. The only method to unlock some specific nameplates is to purchase from bundles available in the store, however, some of these bundles are only temporarily available.
Adjusting a Simple Setting in Marvel Rivals Will Drastically Improve Your Communication During Matches
It has been confirmed that Hawkeye’s Galactic Fangs and Captain America’s Galactic Talon bundles will be removed from the store to make space for the new holiday special bundles. To celebrate the holiday season, NetEase Games has also provided players with an opportunity to unlock a unique skin for Jeff. To earn the Cuddly Fuzzlefin for Jeff, players must complete the Winter Celebration event card before the event ends on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. EST.
