For those who may not have been a part of the bigger picture back then, let’s revisit this one rather unpleasant moment in theTokyo Ghoulmanga that still haunts many fans even to this day. Though it may seem trivial in hindsight, a certain scene from the first chapter ofTokyo Ghoul: Rearc caused widespread outrage among fans when it was first released.

So now you might wonder what was all the fuss about! The answer to that may be quite underwhelming as fans were simply upset because the series did not culminate in a gay love scene! This massive fan reaction certainly did prove how big of a HideKane fandom there is, and more importantly, how their influence can spread such widespread hatred.
Tokyo Ghoul: Rechapter 125 dropped a banger, but not for all!
While the previous chapter in theTokyo Ghoulmanga series was full of insane action sequences, it was only Ken and Touka who narrowly managed to escape getting their backs broken. But later, one could see the emotional aftermath when Kaneki hit the bottom but shockingly also got a sudden kiss from Touka. Readers were left stunned and confused, wondering what kind of character development was that. And what came after that was even more intense!
The chapter gained massive hype among the readers, as some were simply too shocked to speak, and some were excited to a fault.Sui Ishida, the manga’s creator, had pushed the boundariesof what fans thought possible, even in a mature manga series.

The following chapter showed Kaneki and Touka’s love to blossom with so much tenderness and intimacy that it literally etched into the readers’ memories. This isa whole 16-page chapter on their love; as beautiful as cathartic; and awkward but also endearing with its gentle whispers and heartfelt reactions.
“It is hard for me to connect with my readers”: Tokyo Ghoul Mangaka Sui Ishida Made a Startling Revelation About His Best Work That Was Butchered in the Anime
It was an extremely breathtaking and emotional chapter that most of the fans had constantly been labeling as the most beautiful chapter of manga history. However, as already mentioned, there was also a certain group of people who were not okay with this plot progression at all, and they certainly all owe an apology to Ishida for all the atrocities they have committed.
The HideKane ship was so hard to escape!
The HideKane fandom wasleft reeling in anger and despairwhen their main ship, as it seemed, was completely discarded. They were like: Why aren’t there any Hideyoshi X Kaneki moment? The fans began ranting on social media, blogs, and forums against the issue to display their displeasure; some even outdid this by sending hate mail and personal threats against Sui Ishida!
Some fans carried the outrage to an even more extreme point, claiming Ishida was homophobic and should apologize or commit suicide! Such toxic behavior on the part of some fans made it a nightmare for casual readers who were simply trying to enjoy the story without being entangled in the drama.

One Panel Alone is Enough Proof Why Sui Ishida’s Tokyo Ghoul Anime Deserves a Second Chance like One Piece
Even as the manga continued later on, the HideKane fandom’s discontent over this scene never really dissipated. However, this controversy also serves as a reminder of the intense passion and investment that any group of fans can have in a story, as well as the potential for that passion to curdle into toxicity and negativity.
