Single-entity monsters are some of the most impressive units inTotal War: Warhammer 3Immortal Empires, both in terms of size and stats. Unlocking the best monsters in the game takes quite a while, and you’ll need to spend a small fortune to recruit even one of them. However, the hassle is well worth it since monsters can completely shift the tide of battle in your favor. They also count heavily toward the auto-resolve score.

Ranking the best monster units in Immortal Empires was quite a challenge as there are several dozens of them to choose from. In order to keep things nice and simple, this list won’t include any Regiments of Renown or special monster units. Monstrous infantry and cavalry have been excluded as well.

10Necrofex Colossus

Leadership

Melee Attack

Melee Defense

Weapon Strength

Missile Strength

Charge Bonus

The Necrofex Colossus is arguably the most important unit in the Vampire Coast’s roster, and one of the best monster units in Immortal Empires for doom stacking. Unlike regular artillery pieces, the Necrofex Colossus rarely needs to be defended since it can handle melee combat just fine. In addition to havingArmor-Piercingattacks and the ability toFire Whilst Moving, this monster automaticallysummons a unit of Zombie Pirate Deckhand Mobswhen its hitpoints drop below 50%.

Needless to say, the Necrofex Colossus also has impressive long-ranged capabilities. The unit hasArmor-Piercing Missilesand theExtra Powderability allows it to deal 30% more damage with its opening salvos. Ideally, you’ll want to use this monster to blow up towers and walls during sieges, but the Necrofex Colossus isn’t half-bad at disrupting enemy formations either.

9Hell Pit Abomination

Skaven factions have so many good units at their disposal that they rarely have to rely on Hell Pit Abominations. However, you’ll still want to add one to your main army as they perform very well on the battlefield, especially if you’re playing as Clan Moulder. Hell Pit Abominations can handle ranged fire better than other monsters thanks to their15% Missile Resistanceand they can deal a respectable amount ofArmor-Piercingdamage along with a bit of anti-large damage.

Hell Pit Abominations have a pretty unique ability calledToo Horrible To Diethat gives them a chance to gain a chunk of health whenever their hitpoints fall under 10%. However, that same ability also has a chance of instantly killing the unit when they’re low on health. Upon death, this monstrosityspawns a unit of Skavenslave Spears, but you can easily keep it alive in most situations by taking advantage of itsRegenerationability.

8Ancient Stegadon

While the Dread Saurian may seem like an obvious choice for this list, the sheer size of that behemoth makes it less useful than a lot of other monsters found in the Lizardmen roster. The Ancient Stegadon is a prime example of a monster that brings more than just size and damage to the table, though it’s not doing too bad in those areas either. Its biggest advantage over other monsters is its massive charge bonus that puts even some ofthe best cavalry unitsto shame. Ancient Stegadons canFire Whilst Movingand their ranged attacks dealPoisondamage, allowing these dinosaurs to slow down and weaken enemy units as they’re setting them up for a big charge.

Also, worth noting is that Ancient Stegadons have15% Missile Resistance,Armor-Piercing Meleeattacks, and areArmoredto the teeth. In fact, outside of Rogue Idols and Rotting Leviathans, Ancient Stegadons have the most armor out of any monster unit in Immortal Empires. And, like many other Lizardmen monsters, they havePrimal Instincts, which give them a boost to charge bonus, melee attack, and physical defense when their hitpoints drop under 50%.

7Khemrian Warsphinx

The Tomb Kings are another race that has a wide variety of good monster units at its disposal. Although a bit weaker than other monsters in terms of raw stats, the Khemrian Warsphinx is more versatile and benefits from animations that allow it to easily get in and out of combat. That’s quite a big advantage considering most monsters get stuck as soon as they’re engaged in melee.

Just like the Ancient Stegadon, thisConstructhas a ranged attack that, while not as powerful, can be used for much longer thanks to the Warsphinx’s almost endless supply of ammunition. As far as melee combat is concerned, the Khemrian Warsphinx is primarily anAnti-Infantrymonster that can dealArmor-Piercingdamage while beingArmoreditself.

6Soul Grinder (Nurgle)

Nurgle isn’t exactly one of thebest factions in Immortal Empiresbut it does have a couple of powerful units that are not to be underestimated. One of the best of the bunch is Nurgle’s Soul Grinder variant. This missile monster is more resilient than its siblings thanks to theArmoredtrait and a permanent20% Physical Resistancebuff. In addition, Soul Grinders of Nurgle also get a melee defense buff as long as they’re engaged in melee thanks to theHalo of Fliesability.

But even though these Soul Grinders excel at defense, they’re no slouches when it comes to offense either. For one, they get anAnti-Infantrybonus and haveArmor-Piercingattacks. Moreover, they also haveMagical Attacksand dealPoisondamage both at range and in melee.

5Bloodthirster

Flying monsters are generally not as good as you might expect because they’re particularly vulnerable to ranged units, but there are some exceptions, with the Bloodthirster being a pretty obvious one. Even though they don’t have any resistance against missile fire, Bloodthirsters are some of the fastest monster units in Immortal Empires, meaning you’re able to simply avoid archers with a bit of micro. Once in combat, Bloodthirsters don’t have to worry too much about other types of damage since they have20% Physical Resistanceand25% Spell Resistance.

Other important traits that make Bloodthirsters great in combat includeArmor-Piercing,Anti-Large,Flaming Attacks, andMagical Attacks. In other words, Bloodthirsters are effective against virtually any type of unit in the game. The only thing missing is an Anti-Infantry bonus, but they don’t actually need it since they can already handle eventhe best infantry unitsjust fine.

Soul Grinder of Nurgle in Immortal Empires

The Ghorgon is another Anti-Large monster unit with Armor-Piercing attacks and well-rounded offensive stats. The unit’s already respectable base stats become increasingly more impressive throughout the course of a battle thanks toBloodgreed, an ability that gives Ghorgons buffs to weapon strength, charge bonus, and melee attack with each kill made by the unit. Bloodgreed also makes GhorgonsImmune to Psychology.

Bloodgreed aside, Ghorgons get two other useful abilities:Strength From FleshandWoodsman. Strength From Flesh is a better version of the standard Regeneration that remains active as long as the unit is engaged in melee. Meanwhile, Woodsman allows Ghorgons to pass through trees, meaning you don’t have to worry about them getting stuck while they’re fighting in a forest.

3Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

Dragon Ogre Shaggoths are giant brutish monsters that can take out several units all by themselves without even breaking a sweat. TheirScaly Skinability combined with theArmoredtrait makes them highly resilient to both melee attacks and missile fire. In turn, Dragon Ogre Shaggoths can really put the hurt on enemies with their high weapon strength andArmor-Piercingattacks.

Aside fromWallbreaker, which allows them to attack and destroy walls in melee, Dragon Ogre Shaggoths don’t get any other special abilities. However, they arguably don’t need them because these monsters are already pretty powerful as is.

2Star Dragon

There are plenty of dragon units to choose from in Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires but none of them can hold a candle to Star Dragons in terms of raw power. These flying monsters are fast, hit like a truck, and benefit from theScaly Skinability just like Dragon Ogre Shaggoths. They’re also Armored for good measure and have bothArmor-PiercingandFlaming Attacks.

As one might expect from a monster unit like this, Star Dragons get access to a powerful breath attack that can be used three times per battle. TheStar Dragon’s Breathis pretty devastating as it deals both fire and explosive damage, albeit it can only be used while the unit is flying and not engaged in melee.

1War Mammoth

War Mammoths function similarly to Khemrian Warsphinxes on the battlefield but are arguably even better despite having lower stats. One of the things that set them apart from a lot of the other monster units on this list is their absolutely massive health pool. Combine that with the Armored trait, and it’s easy to see why War Mammoths are so good at staying alive even when completely surrounded by enemy units.

War Mammoths are pretty unique compared to other monster units in Immortal Empires in that they get anAnti-Infantrybonus with their melee attacks as well as anAnti-Largebonus with their ranged ones. Usually, it’s either one or the other. War Mammoths are alsoArmor-Piercingand have respectable weapon strength, so you’re able to expect them to perform well against every type of unit in the game.
