News of a potential new title byRespawn Entertainment, set within theTitanfalluniverse, began circulating yesterday after industry insider Jeff Grub revealed that the project had left the prototype phase of development.
On thelatest episodeof Game Mess Mornings, Grubb discussed the recent news ofEA canceling Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming first-person shooterset in the Star Wars universe. The insider then went on to explain how Respawn had a small team of developers working on a new game that he understands is set in the Titanfall universe.

The consequences of mass layoffs will be felt in the years to come.
Grubb explained that Respawn had a “skunkworks project” that was in the very early stages of prototyping but was now set to go to a wider team. While still in the prototyping phase of development, the insider said that it was being led by Titanfall director Steve Fukuda.
“This game, as it stands today, as far as I understand, is a ‘Titanfall’ game. It’s in the Titanfall universe. But everybody I talked to keeps saying, ‘Don’t get in your mind that it’s Titanfall 3.'” - Jeff Grub, via Game Mess Mornings
Even though Grubb had been explicitly told that this was not Titanfall 3, the rumor has still sent the game’s community into an absolute frenzy.
Titanfall Fans React To New Respawn Game
Over on the Titanfall subreddit, a myriad of users bombarded the forum site with posts about the possibility of a new Titanfall game. While many were (once again) begging Respawn to develop Titanfall 3, others were, rather hilariously, telling fans to keep their expectations in check.
Thetop poston the subreddit came from Reddit user X5Cucumber, who posted a screenshot of the news, simply captioned “Titanfall 3 pls.” Other users were expressing their sadness over the fact that Respawnstillisn’t working on Titanfall 3. “It’s a sad day, pilots,” Reddit userwildcard17o said.
Some, on the other hand, were optimistic about a possible new game set in the Titanfall universe. Reddit usera_gross_bloceven theorized that if Respawn isn’t working on Titanfall 3, they could be working on a Titanfall prequel. “Imagine with me for a second: a Titanfall prequel,” the user said.
The subreddit quickly dissolved into anarchy, with a plethora of memes making light of the news.
Given that the project is reportedly still in the very early stages, fans shouldn’t expect to hear any news on the title for quite some time. Possibly even years. And if you’re hoping that the project somehow turns out to be Titanfall 3,Jeff Grub reiterated on X(formerly Twitter) that it most certainly won’t be.
