Now for its sequel, Phillips is once again not flinching from tackling new grounds with its musical setting, and the description of the sequel’s opening sequence has only added to the hype.

While it’s not uncommon for Comic book releases to tackle uncharted territories, it’s few and far between as studios are more inclined to stick to what has been working for them in the past. But thanks to the humungous success of 2019’sJoker, theHangoverfilmmakerwas able to secure a bigger budget forJoker: Folie à Deux, which is far more ambitious than its predecessor.

Although it remains to be seen if the sequel could replicate the success of the 2019 release, it’s safe to say this could be unlike anything we’ve seen from CBMs yet.
Todd Phillips Had No Intentions To Play Safe With the Sequel
Even though the director’s decision to take the musical route for the sequel startled many, the concept of Arthur expressing himself through music seems pretty in line with the character. However, this isn’t to say there isn’t any risk involved with this major swing, and theHangovercreator too is aware of it. But despite the fear of failure being involved, for the filmmaker, playing safe wasn’t an option, as he stressed, one can only top themselves by doing something dangerous.
The question became, ‘how can we top ourselves?’ And you’re able to only do that if you do something dangerous. But there were days on set where you’d look around and think, ‘Holy fucking shit! What did we do?’
With just over a month remaining before it hits the big screens, fans can finally have the chance to experience something fresh, which is a rarity in the modern CBM landscape.
