With how power scaling unravels in shonen series, nobody expects every new power-up to make sense or align with the existing standards. However, during the Fourth Great Ninja War inNaruto, the power scale was completely disregarded as Masashi Kishimoto introduced astronomical power-ups one after the other.
From Naruto being the reincarnation of Indra to Obito’s Ten-Tails transformation, the progression in the power levels was staggering. Even amidst such revelations, Hashirama Senju’s wood release stands out for how overpowered it is. It’s a good thing Kishimoto has since kept this technique out of the narrative, as it clearly turns the tides in a biased manner.
This technique is arguably the strongest in Hashirama’s arsenal
Hashirama Senju was one of the strongest shinobi in theNarutouniverse. Unlike many other characters with special abilities,Hashirama wasn’t gifted or had any abilities like the Sharingan. He developed an arsenal of attacks that could assist him in both offense and defense during fights. Moreover, he made the best out of those abilities. He was unstoppable and the only character we know who could keep up with him was Madara Uchiha.

As strong as Hashirama was,Masashi Kishimotohit it out of the park when he introduced the True Several Thousand Hands. Hashirama successfully restrained both Kurama and Madara’s Susano when he unleashed the full force of his wood release through the True Several Thousand Hands technique. In comparison, it cost Minato Kushina and his life to seal Kurama alone, while Hashirama arguably didn’t struggle as much.
When we consider how perceptive and efficient Minato was, the colossal difference between Hashirama’s skill level and the others becomes apparent. Hashirama’s skills combined with the Thousand Hands makeNaruto‘s power scaling a warped concept,as this Reddit post points out. When reminded of how overpowered this technique truly was, one can’t help but be glad about the fact that this technique wasn’t mentioned again.
Leaving out this technique fromBorutodoesn’t make much of a difference
It’s a good thing that such overpowered techniques weren’t a part ofBorutoinitially. WhileBorutostarted fairly in terms of the powers, the levels have grown overpowered and bizarre over time. Kaguya was the final villain ofNaruto Shippuden, but even at the beginning ofBoruto, there were many characters who were as strong as Kaguya, if not stronger.
It needs to be mentioned that this is the status when we don’t even know the full scope of Boruto’s abilities, there could be a steep rise in his overall strength. While the Thousand Hands technique of Hashirama ruinedNaruto’s power scaling,Borutodid the same without even trying.
