Being a much-anticipated follow-up to the 1988 cult classic, critics were waiting to compare and tear the movie apart, but surprisingly, the early reviews are quite positive! Burton has made some bold decisions that worked well in his favor, once again proving that his risky moves pay off.

Michael Keaton’s Betelgeuse Shines in Tim Burton’s Risky Sequel

InBeetlejuice Beetlejuice,Michael Keatonhas returned as the mischievous Betelgeuse but this time his role is far more prominent. His screen presence in the 1988 film was minimal yet charming, but this time around, Tim Burton’s decision to let the audience have more of this character has led to widespread acclaim.

The sequel picks up decades after the events that unfolded in the original, withWinona Ryder, who essays the role of Lydia Deetz, still haunted by visions of Betelgeuse. thank you Tim Burton for not relying on the use of CGI. We already have so many directors right now doing that, we need to bring back the practical effects that helped us love your movies in the first place

Keaton as Betelgeuse is still as captivating and critics have praised his ability to command the screen. He still adds that manic energy to the character which makes it so iconic, but with the passage of time, there’s also more depth to him.

Who would have thought this obscure gem from the 80s would be so relevant today? I hope it delivers. 🤞

The film grips your attention and Burton’s decision has allowed the exploration of Keaton’s character in new and exciting ways. The sequel is indeed a wild ride for the fans, especially those who loved the original one.

Tim Burton’s Signature Gothic Flair and Wacky Creativity in Beetlejuice 2

Beetlejuice 2is unmistakably aTim Burtonfilm as it has his eccentric gothic touches, which is the trademark of his direction. In aninterview, he was asked about his experience of revisiting the world, and Burton had quite a moving answer.

It’s not like “Big Fish,” but I don’t think I could have done this earlier because, first of all, I had no idea to do a sequel — again, this is before the time where those things were talked about. But to revisit it now was nice, because Lydia was a character that I always felt strongly about.

What happens to people 35 years later? Where do they go? What’s their journey? And what happened to the Deetz family? This feeling about it was quite simple for me and emotional.

Can’t believe he did it for free

The director thoroughly enjoyed working with the new cast and the old one, as it made him sentimental but also excited about the novel possibilities. Burton did not watch the original one because he wasn’t quite sure about what led that film to success, but he gave the sequel the same treatment by not thinking about it too much and swiftly moving through it.

AfterDumbo, he felt like he could’ve retired or become an animator again, but working onWednesdaymade his creative juices flow again, and “reenergized” him to work.

It felt like there was a change around the time of COVID where everything was just in flux. And so, rather than get caught up in that, I just worked on my own feelings and things. Then “Wednesday” came along. That reconnected me to making things. We went off to Romania and it felt like it was a creative health camp. It went so well.

Tim Burton says “Wednesday” reignited his love for making films and led him to finally do Beetlejuice 2.“Wednesday reconnected me to why I like making things. It was like shooting a movie on a TV schedule. It was quick. It was invigorating.”(Via:@totalfilm)pic.twitter.com/dCQRadKyTA

Whatever happened when he made Wednesday seemed to have rejuvenated his creative spirit..

Beetlejuice 2is another triumph for Tim Burton who has managed to capture the essence of the original movie and even elevate it, which is a rare feat to accomplish for sequels. The visionary director has further cemented his place in cinema and flaunted his adaptability to thrive in new-age trends without losing his touch.

Beetlejuice 2is set to release in theaters on September 6th, 2024.
