Costner and Taylor Sheridan’sYellowstoneproducers have reportedly been in a squabble ever since the actor left the show to accommodate for his dream project. However, the actor revealed that he had given a lot of time for the show but it was the series that did not have scripts ready on time, leading to him having to prioritize the film. He said toDeadline,

I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful. So now I’m talking a little bit about what the real truth of it was. I made a contract for seasons five, six, and seven. In February, after a two- or three-month negotiation, they made another contract. They wanted to redo that one, and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we’ll do six. They weren’t able to make those. Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was in first position. I fit [Horizon] into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps.

Costner also mentioned that the studio spun the truth to blame the entire deal on him, which he took issue with. He also mentioned that he was open to returning to Taylor Sheridan’s show provided they had the scripts in time. The filmmaker is also gearing up to release the second part ofHorizonand has also planned a third and fourth sequel.
