Promising things are happening in Hollywood and its neighboring streaming platforms. Films are getting bolder, directors are getting riskier, and actors are taking up more challenging roles. Meanwhile, the gaming franchise looks to be on the rise as those like Henry Cavill and Pedro Pascal lead their efforts in makingWarhammer 40KandThe Last of Usthe best in the business.

The Last of Us.

Despite the video game-to-live-action industry suffering for the past three decades since the 1993 adaptation ofSuper Mario Bros., the industry has only recently begun to get the hang of it with the likes ofArcane: League of Legends,Fallout, andSonic the Hedgehog.

While other more contentious adaptations likeThe WitcherandResident Evilexist on the fringes of cult classic favorites, people are getting more than their fair share of good video game adaptations as the industry adapts and learns from the mistakes of its past.

Henry Cavill’sWarhammer 40KRuns Into Competition

Amazon Studios has given theMan of SteelactorHenry Cavillfree reign to build hisWarhammeruniverse into an exceptional video game-to-live-action experience. The actor, who has all the qualities of a nerd and the looks of an action superhero, has graciously accepted after his contentious phase with DC and Warner Bros. left him ill-equipped to return to the comic book world.

In the meanwhile, Amazon has also seemed to greenlight another project, namelySecret Level, an anthology series that has adapted more than 15 games into the fold as short stories, including one episode based on theWarhammer 40Kuniverse. The question that now arises in the aftermath of the new Prime Video series is whetherSecret Levelhas anything to do with Henry Cavill’sWarhammer 40Kseries or if the two are planning to cross over any time soon.

However, this does not mean that Henry Cavill’s individual adaptation ofWarhammer 40Kcan expect a boost up fromSecret Levelvia a crossover episode in the near future. As far as executive producer Dave Wilson is concerned:

They’re pretty separate right now […] These franchises don’t belong to us, or anyone in Hollywood, they belong to the creatives in Nottingham who have kept that franchise alive for 40 years…

Wilson’s claims confirm a clean start for Henry Cavill’s expansive live-action Warhammer Cinematic Universe on Prime Video despite the growing popularity ofSecret Levelon the platform, too. WhetherWarhammer 40Ksinks or swims will be completely independent ofSecret Level‘s interference in the project which Cavill has been devoting himself to for so long.

Secret Levelwill launch on Prime Video on July 18, 2025.
