As part of yesterday’s Season 2 Reloaded update,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3players were treated to a brand-new melee weapon. The weapon, which is called The Soulrender, can one-shot those pesky Riot Shield users, making it an absolute must for any avidCall of Dutyplayer.

The mid-season update also saw the return of Das Haus, a 6v6 multiplayer map that has been remastered for the latest entry in the Call of Duty series. The map was a fan favorite back in Call of Duty: Vanguard and has now been reimagined and situated on top of a skyscraper in the vicinity of another fan-favorite map, Highrise.

Joining Das Haus in Season 2 Reloaded is new map variants, including an overgrown version of Skidrow and an alien-infested variant of Terminal known as ‘Airborne.’ But the standout addition for Modern Warfare 3 players is easily one of the two new weapons that were added to the game yesterday.

The Soulrender Can One Shot Riot Shield Users In Modern Warfare 3

According to the official description for The Soulrender, it is a “ceremonial blade capable of razor-sharp cuts and deadly melee action in close-quarters combat.” The weapon is said to offer “rapid slashing attacks” when using the aim button, or it has a heavier primary attack that can be used by holding the fire button.

So, what’s so special about this new melee weapon? Well, this isn’t like any of the other melee weapons released before it, because this one can go toe-to-toe with a Riot Shield…and win.

In a recent clip shared by Twitter userDetonated, we can see The Soulrender in action against a Riot Shield user, and it makes quick work of the Riot Shield, even when it’s directly in front of it. It’s worth noting that this is with the melee weapon’s heavy attack, not the light attack.

Some of you may be wondering if this is a bug that is likely to be fixed in a future update. Thankfully, it’s not. Sledgehammer Gamesresponded to the clipby saying, “Not a bug! The Soulrender’s heavy attack, much like the JAK Limb Ripper and JAK Purifier, is an intentional counter to Riot Shields.”

If, like me, you’re sick of no-skill Riot Shield users, The Soulrender can be unlocked via a set of challenges in the Season 2 Battle Pass. But, if you don’t fancy completing the challenges, you’re able to buy one of the in-game bundles that will immediately unlock it. While I’m not usually one for spending money on in-game purchases, this one might be an exception.
