Lopez knew she wanted to make the film, no matter what. Which is why, she decided to put passion over paycheck. In an interview withGQ, theOn the Floorsinger revealed that she didn’t make much money forHustlers.
I didn’t get paid a whole bunch of money for Hustlers. I did it for free and produced it. Like Jenny From the Block—I do what I love.
Lopez went on to add that the film became a movement where women ran the scene and called the shot. It was about time they made a movie where the tables turned on men.
It became a movement. This is our movie, where we run shit. They know it’s all women producers, woman director, woman writer, all women starring in it. We’ve been watching men take advantage of women in movies for a long time, so it was a fun ride to see the tables turned.
Hustlerswas appreciated by the critics for its dramatic storyline and stunning visuals. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a high score of 88% and the critical consensus calls this a“career-best performance”for J-Lo.
Jennifer Lopez Has Never Been Motivated by Money
Being the top earner at the club, Ramona’s life revolved around money. Based on a real story, Ramona was motivated to work for money, and when the financial crisis of 2007-08 kicked in, she was forced to resort to different ways to make money. Leading a group of strippers, Ramona starts to target rich men at the club and steal their cards.

However, the character couldn’t be further from the actor. Talking to GQ, Lopez revealed that she has never been one to be motivated by money. Her passion is her drive, and she bets on her talents, which has obviously worked for her.
She stated,
I’ve never been motivated by money. I’ve always been motivated by wanting to be a great singer, a great actor, a great dancer, I want to make movies, I want to make music. And the money came along with that.
Thus, not charging a fee forHustlerswas an easy decision for her. The film made $157 million at the worldwide box office which probably resulted in Lopez making some cash at least.
