Based on a single-player adventure game of the same name, HBO’sThe Last of Ushas been a successful entry into the world of TV show adaptations based on video games. The journey of Joel and Ellie has set the pace for an emotional narrative that’s going to be developed over the next few seasons.

Season 2 comes out in 2025, with seven episodes in total. Even though short in length, the story will continue through later seasons, and fans have controversial thoughts regarding the same.

Naturally, writing and directing a narrative of this length will exceed seven episodes, as HBO is likely trying its best to focus on quality of quantity.

However, some fans aren’t too eager about this approach. Many expect the entire game to be covered in the second season, while others are starting to anticipate what this could mean forThe Last of Us Part 3.
This means they need to take time as the 3rd game is nowhere close to the release

This can also mean that Naughty Dog may not be keen on HBO quickly wrapping up the adaptation, as the studio is involved with multiple projects at the moment and it could be a while until we see the third entry into the series.

When the second game in the series came out, the community was almost instantly divided in two. On one hand, we had players who appreciated the complexity and realism of the narrative. On the other, fans couldn’t believe that the story took such a drastic turn in perception and storytelling.

Whichever the case, the game became a topic of heated conversations and it’s likely that history is going to repeat itself when the second season of the show comes out.The Last of Usis, after all, a highly successful product of interactive storytelling and the first season did justice to the game’s narrative.
Unfortunately, this has also set expectations for viewers to watch something that they’re comfortable with, rather than something that may change their opinion once and for all. Only time will tell how fan opinions shape up in the future.
