He stated:
“In terms of adapting a webtoon into an anime, I’d say the biggest difference is probably the pace of the story. And that was one hurdle we needed to deal with. So, in order to overcome that, we added a bit of extra meat to the story with an eye towards the overall adaptation.”
He explained how the pace of the story is different for a webtoon and an anime, which became a problem for them. He also discussed how a regular manga volume could be converted in two to three episodes, however, a manhwa was closer to 1.5 episodes, making it a greater task for theSolo Levelinganime creators.

Solo Leveling’sDirector Explains The Difficulties of Adapting a Manhw into Anime
Solo Leveling’sdirector Shunsuke Nakashige also explained thedifficulties of adaptingtheSolo Levelingmanhwa into the anime. He stated that the manhwa is a fast and energetic read and adapting it in a twenty-minute episode could make it lose its worth. Therefore they have to add or subtract some things.
“It’s such a brisk read that it can sometimes be a little too breezy for 20 minutes of TV, and with film, you need upswings and downswings, so we try to think hard about how to control that, what to add and what to subtract.”

Nakashige also stated that he met with original authorChugongand D&C Media, and the documentary revealed that production began in 2020 and nothing happened without D&C’s agreement. Therefore the changes were accepted by Chugong, thus making it acceptable for the fans and theSolo Levelingseries.
