Dragon Ball DAIMAis the final project of Akira Toriyama and a heartfelt tribute to the late Mangaka. Above all, it redefines the series in its unique way while retaining the essence of Toriyama’s legacy.

From visuals to voice cast, the series is beyond promising in most aspects and this also applies to its plot development and concept. This, however, doesn’t sit well with most fans, especially viewers.

Of late, several fans have relentlessly complained about the series’ pacing. With only twenty episodes, many feel that the lore is being cramped. While it may seem the case at first, there’s a solid reason behind it.

Fans respond to the pacing issues

The pacing is tied to the future projects of the franchise. Through its lore and rich storyline, it makes up for promising animated projects. It offers a fresh perspective while retaining most of the nostalgic elements.

Dragon Ball DAIMA and the curious case of pacing

Dragon Ball DAIMAis the final project of the late Mangaka Akira Toriyama. The famed mangaka paved the way for the shonen genre through his series. From camaraderie to rivalry, he set a benchmark in storytelling through his literary brilliance.

The anime takes it up a notch with its impeccable animation and unique take. The Kid Goku trope renders nostalgia for all the fans, including readers and viewers. But there are several caveats to the series as well.

Like most anime, it iscriticized for its pacing. Most fans deem the plot to be rather too rushed for their liking. Others, however, feel that the criticism is baseless.

Interestingly, the plot is encapsulated within twenty episodes. Considering the congruity of both manga and anime, the pacing would make sense, as the readers pointed out.

Dragon Ball Daima does feel like a giant movie cut into episodes, it should be obvious that they only have so much lore to expand on, with that said I think allot of the pacing complaints will be alleviated once the series is over. Every lore dump that seems “unnecessary” in most…

For me the lore dumps have been the most interesting parts of the show, but I think they’re dragging moving the plot alongie all these scenes of them beating up the same generic mooks and constantly getting stopped on the way

Hot take? I think the pacing is great, it’s classic dragon ball pacing. We haven’t had it in quite sometime, and so much anime is breakneck pacing nowadays or just slice of life. Once people binge this? Doubt it’ll be complained about much

The show is doing a slow burn reveal. Every pit stop is a reveal when we could’ve gotten Vegeta and Bulma there in episode 4 and reveal Shins demon name. But eh.

The new lore every episode is great and makes DAIMA worth existing

Call it loredumping but it certainly plays a pivotal role in worldbuilding and premise. Something that fans overlook is its potential role in the franchise’s future.

Loredumping is important for anime

As opposed to the previous series DAIMA follows a completely different story altogether. It is a detour from the recycled tropes and metaphors as one would assume.

Besides, the series is not to be compared to GT in any case. It is far-fetched from the previous works. Yet, it sets itself apart through itsunique loreand premise.

Itsrich themesand contents pave the way for future projects in most ways. Within the lore, several elements are left uncharted and unexplored. All in all, DAIMA is nothing but a treasure trove of possibilities for the franchise.

In their criticism of the series, fans may have spoken too soon regarding its potential. As a tribute to Toriyama sensei, the series is a just adaptation of his ideas and visions.

Dragon Ball DAIMAis available for streaming on Netflix.
