James Gunn’s DCU has a lot to live up to. Not only do fans expect that the DCU will outdo what Zack Snyder tried to do with the DCEU, but fans, myself included, hope that it is able to launch a cinematic universe that could rival, if not outdo the Marvel Cineamtic Universe. However, odd ideas in the DC Universe that I think could set it apart from other superhero universes.

The Joker

Given that bold new takes on famous characters have been doing so well in recent years, whether they be copyright-friendly parodies or alternate universe, there is a potent case to be made for James Gunn to include at least one of the three times when The Joker wore Batman’s costume.

The DCEU already touched on a plot point that resulted in Batman giving Joker a Bat-suit

The first time the Joker wore a bat suit was when Gotham was under the reign of Bane. Having caused criminals to run wild, an escaped Joker buys a Batman costume from a store and has one of his minions dressed up as Robin. Another time, more reminiscent of the DCEU, was when the Joker and Batman had to team up to save the residents of Gotham from monsters.

This version of the story, calledDeadly Duo(2022), saw Batman provide the Joker with a Bat-suit, so that he may have some enhanced endurance. In the DCEU, something similar happened when Darkseid invaded Earth, as seen in the Knightmare timeline.

However, I personally would like the third time the Joker wore the Batman suit to make its way into the DCU, during the Joker War when the Clown Prince of Crime was able to take over Bruce Wayne’s wealth. This allowed the character to alter and dawn the Bat suit, albeit with some modifications, which was a pretty cool design, all things considered.

James Gunn’s Batman is going to start out with Damian Wayne Robin in the DCU

James Gunnrevealed that the DCU will have Batman with Damian Wayne as his Robin, which means that the likes of Nightwing, Red Hood, and Red Robin would probably exist in the universe. This also indicates that other sidekicks like Donna Troy and Wally West could also have aged up, and the Teen Titans would just be the Titans in this continuity.

The existence of Damin Wayne automatically dictates that the League of Assassins and Deathstroke could be already in the DCU. This means that Lex Luthor could already be in the process of assembling something akin to the Legion of Doom, or it could have at least crossed his mind, if so many heroes are already running around in the DCU.
