While heroism, courage, and justice are some of the common themes found in Shonen anime, there’s also an underlying trope of surpassing a strong character. From Goku to Vegeta, Akira Toriyama has created some of the strongest characters in his series,Dragon Ball.

However, there is one particular character whose strength is unmatched to the extent that he can rival the God of destruction. Jiren the Grey is as enigmatic and mysterious as his powers.
While his origins are unknown, he proves to be one of the most powerful characters in the series. To add to that, several fans have pointed out possible theories behind his strength.

Jiren’s eye-conic jutsu
Jiren the Grey made his debut in the 85th episode ofDragon Ball: Superwritten byAkira Toriyama. He’s one of the most powerful members of the Pride Troopers as well as the antagonist of the series. On top of that, he maintains a stoic personality andoften remains quiet.
Apart from his stoic persona, his background remains an enigma and so does the origins of his powers. In an interesting theory proposed by@r/dbzon Reddit, it is speculated that his power may be stemming from his eyes. Additionally, the user noted how the character’s eyes are rarely closed, and when he does, it could mean that he’s resting his eye power.

While this could be the reason behind his glowing eyes, there were similar theories that had fans deconstructing how his eye jutsu could potentially work. A user named@Zoldozexplained and elaborated on the Red Eye attack in a thread from Reddit.
Several fans also pointed to the release of Ki being a part of the character’s glaring red eyes. Apart from the eye-jutsu theories, several plausible theories point to the origins of his strength. Some of these theories speculate that conserving his energy could be the possible reason for his soul-crushing power.

Jiren’s mystifying power is linked to meditation
While this may sound crazy, this theory might be partly plausible. Undoubtedly, Jiren is one of the most powerful characters in theDragon BallUniversewhohasn’t shown his true potential and power. Besides, it is known that he can withstand strong attacks and match up to Belmod, the god of destruction.
To add to that, he has mastery over ki and relies mostly on his sheer physical strength. The fact that it took the combined efforts of Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 to stop him goes on to prove his unparalleled and uncontested strength asone of the most powerful beings in the universe.

Moreover, many fan theories point to meditation and conservation of energy as a true source and core of his strength. In addition to that, a user explained how his meditative state allowed him to retain his strength in thisthread on Reddit.
Furthermore, his attack stances are usually calm and composed which is also reflected in his personality. While his age and background remain an enigma, his strength highlights raw and immeasurable power. From his speed to planned attacks, Jiren proves to be a formidable opponent to several characters including Maji-kayo.
Be it a red-eye attack or a meditative state, the source of Jiren’s true strength and immeasurable power isn’t revealed. However, his abilities and strength certainly do justice to his character being one of the strongest in the series.
