Made on a budget of over $200 million,Varietyreported that the film needed to make $500 million or more to break even, as Apple and Universal spent over $80 million just to promote the film. So for a film of this scale, it had to cross the $500 million threshold, which it failed to do.
The film got off to a disappointing start, as it minted just $17 million domestically on the opening weekend. The Universal film procured a meager $4 million from the international market. During the entirety of its theatrical run, it made only $36 million in the domestic market and only $40 million worldwide. The film could not even cross the $100 million threshold, sputtering to a stop with agross total of $76 million.

Argyllewas part of the slate of Apple TV+ films such asNapoleonandKillers of the Flower Moon. All three films had a budget of upwards of $200 million, and all three struggled to perform financially.
