With Creature Commandosrecently renewed for season 2and Superman dropping itsfirst traileras it prepares to be released, James Gunn’s DCU launch/reboot is firing on all cylinders. Next up for the major brand relaunch isSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Starring Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as the title character, another major actor has now been added to the cast - Jason Momoa.

Jason Momoa is Playing Lobo in the DCU
Momoa, who has previous superhero experience for DC playingAquaman, is jumping into a new role now that the Snyderverse DCEU is deceased. In the new DCU (not confusing at all!), Momoa will be playing Lobo, and he’ll make his villainous debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The actor broke the news on his IG account:
Anyone following the James Gunn-led DC Universe knows that Momoa has been rumored for a role since the beginning. At first, it was thought that Momoa might continue as Aquaman, one of the few Snyderverse actors to possibly carry over. That rumor was quickly buried when it leaked that Momoa had met with Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran about a different role. And that role was… drumroll, please… LOBO!

Whether that’s initially the role Jason Momoa met with DC for or not, he’s now officially been cast as the anti-hero with superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and invulnerability. Lobo debuted in 1983 inOmega Men#3 and was created by Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen.
Superman Teaser Trailer: Six DC Characters You May Have Missed
James Gunn released a teaser trailer for Superman, debuting popular DC characters like Green Lantern, Hawk Girl, Krypto, and more.
Momoa Shined as Aquaman
Before stepping in Lobo’s shoes, Jason Momoa played Aquaman in two standalone movies as well asJustice League. The actor’s first outing as Arthur Curry was a huge success for DC, and stands as the most successful movie from the Snyderverse. It’s also the only movie from that era to cross $1 billion at the global box.
The sequel,Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, came out in 2023 and was a financial and commercial failure. Considering that the DCEU was already being rebooted as the DCU, it’s hard to blame Momoa for that movie’s lack of success.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the 2022 comic book series of the same name, is directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) from a script by Ana Nogueira. It is currently scheduled to be released on July 25, 2025.Superman, written and directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, will theatrically kick off the new DCU on August 08, 2025.
