Recent changes toSteamhave led to the mass removal of adult games, as titles on the store now must comply with standards set by banks and payment processors.
Steam is ahive of scum and villainy, with Valve seemingly never interested in cleaning up shop. The digital store has games filled with all kinds of violent and repulsive content, to say nothing of the many asset flip titles and AI-generated trash that fill its pages.

It seems that Valve is being forced to step up. As reported byAutomaton Media, Steamworks has updated its Rules and Guidelines section to include a line abouthow adult content shouldn’t be published on the store, as it may violate rules set out by payment companies used by Steam.
Adult Games Are Leaving Steam Thanks To New Rules
Following these changes,SteamDBis now listing numerous adult games that are being removed from the store, many with names DualShockers can’t post without being punished by Google for listing obscenities.
This isn’t the first time that payment companies have dictated content, as Patreon went through a similar issue in the past, where adult content became heavily regulated, due to the influence of banks on the platform.

Obviously, freedom of speech and freedom of expression need to be protected. On the other hand,Steam features some awful contentthat attracts the worst kinds of people, with Valve taking a frustrating hands-off approach to what’s posted.
It’s unclear whether these changes represent a permanent policy shift, as Valve losing out on money might prompt the company to shift direction. These adult games will find anew home elsewhereon the web, so people who really want them will be able to look for them elsewhere. They’ll just be harder for casual gamers to find, especially on the biggest digital gaming storefront in the world.
