Understanding these reasons will help you make informed decisions likeupgrading your spacesuitbefore landing on a planet with unfavorable living conditions.

Suit Protection Stats
Your spacesuit protects you againstweapon and environmental damage. The extent to which a suit protects you from damage will depend on the suit’srarity and upgrades. To better understand the effects that damage your spacesuit, refer to the breakdown below:
Damage Type
Description
Physical (PHY)
This stat measures the amount of damage you can take from bullets and explosives.

Energy (ENGY)
This stat measures the damage that you can take from energy weapons like plasma rifles, laser rifles, and plasma cannons.

Electromagnetic (EM)
This stat measures your spacesuit’s resistance to EMPs.
This stat measures the amount of stress your suit can bear in extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
This stat measures your suit’s ability to withstand toxic gases and spores.
This stat measures how long your suit can bear acid rain and contact with other chemicals.
This stat measures how long your suit can protect you from environmental radiation.
Your suit’s condition will continue to deteriorate the longer it takesdamage from weaponsor environmental hazards. A damaged suit will display the"Suit Protection Depleted"warning and will no longer provide you with any protection. In such a state, you must visit aspace stationor anoutpostto repair it.

Improving Suit Stats
Since you cannot always avoid harsh atmospheres in Starfield, you should considerimproving your suit’s protection stats. There are a few ways to do this, includingsuit upgrades and mods.
Modscan be installed into your suit to provide additional protection against specific hazards. For instance, mods installed in your suit can help you withstand moreradiation, cold, or acid. You canpurchase mods from merchantsor find them as loot.
A more permanent way to improve your suit’s protection is by investing in theSpacesuit Design skill rankin theScienceskill tree. This skill allows you to upgrade a spacesuit’s base protection stats againstballistic and environmental hazards.
Toupgrade your spacesuit or install a mod, you must find aSpacesuit Workbench. These workbenches can be found atspace stations, settlements, and sometimes inrandom placesas you explore the universe.
