Bethesdahas a lot of new content planned forStarfieldin 2024, and it’s already been rolling out the changes. The latest updatefixes more than 400 bugs in addition to letting you crack a smile at the camera in photo mode, but there are still plenty of changes that players want to see in the massive spacefaring RPG.

A few of these big changes seem to be centered around the Starborn ships. The first ten times you pass through The Unity and start a New Game Plus, Starfield will reward you with some new Starborn goodies. Most of these are different high-quality spacesuits, but you’ll also be able to unlock six differnt versions of the Starborn Guardian ship.

Starfield Vs Fallout 4: Players Debate Which Had The Better Settlement System

It looks like there’s a pretty clear winner…

Starborn Ships Aren’t All They’re Cracked Up To Be

However, unlike all other ships in the game, which you’re able to spend hours customizing to your heart’s content — changing out weapons, installing habs, upgrading grav drives and shields, and tacking on a ton of different cosmetic parts — Starborn ships can never be modified. That makes some sense in the game’s lore, as the technologically superior Starborn see themselves as an advanced form of humanity, so it’s understandable why you can’t just weld in some parts from companies like Stroud-Eklund and HopeTech to your Guardian, which likely runs on much more advanced technology.

Even though the Guardian ships have a unique look and great stats, a lot of players seem to be finding these rewards to bit of a burden, as they’re lacking some of the basic functunalities that even your starter ship, The Frontier, comes equipped with right off the bat.

A Starborn Ship Flying Over A Planet

Chief among these concerns are that Starborn ships don’t have beds. Aside from the immersive aspect, in which many players treat their active ship as a travelling home, beds provide more than just a place to sleep, allowing you to recover all lost health in as little as a single hour (local time) of sleep. Additionally, if you’ve gout a companion with whom you’re romantically involved and they’re with you when you use the bed, you’ll also pick up the Well Rested perk, which will grant you bonus experiences for all actions you take for several hours after using the bed. “They’ll need to add the ability to add a bed to the ship before I’ll consider using it for anything other than pure NG+ temple run playthroughs,“said one player, Aardvark1044, on Reddit.

This mysterious Space Station is filled with contraband, enemies, and legendary loot.

Tech That Still Needs Some Work(benches)

Another big gripe is the lack of workbenches on Starborn ships. Starfield has a pretty intricate crafting system in place, and on a standard ship, you’re able to install habs that contain a variery of workbenches, from ones that let you upgrade your weapons and spacesuits to cooking stations that let you produce food from the recipes you’ve unlocked through perks or picked up across the galaxy.

Even though the Guardian ships have a unique look and great stats, a lot of players seem to be finding these rewards to bit of a burden.

Starfield gameplay

Of course, if you’re playing on PC, there are mods available that will allow you tobuild ships using custom Starborn parts, but that doesn’t apply to players on console or those who just want the ships to be more functional in the base game. Even if the ships themselves cannot be modied, some players in the thread have suggested that Starborn ships could be given a build mode option, like the one that appears in player-owned homes and bases, which would allow them to add beds, workbenches, and all the other furnishings they wish to make each ship feel more individual and functional.

Withthe Shattered Space expansionexpected out this summer, it’s possible that Starfield could see this upgrade in the coming months, but we’ll have to wait and seewhat features are still coming.
