James Gunn Responded to a Conspiracy Theory

DC bossJames Gunnhas responded to a new conspiracy theory involving his DC tenure. The director was asked by a fan if the dismissal ofHenry Cavill’sSuperman was always the intention.

“I’m going to infer that the ‘we were lied to’ angle is regarding a popular conspiracy theory that you were always planning on rebooting DC and making your own Superman movie when you first got hired by Warner Bros. and finished The Suicide Squad, hence ‘intending on always screwing over Cavill’ and ‘lying to the fans’ since you said you had (at the time) no interest in running DC, and didn’t want to make a Superman movie,”the user asked Gunn onThreads.

Gunn responded by refuting the claim and added that a new Superman was always in the pitch of the movie.

“I don’t quite understand how that fits. Aside from the fact I had no interest in running DC until Peter decided to do it with me so he could do the exec stuff & I could focus on creative, when I was hired to write Superman it was always intended as & pitched as a new Superman story, so why would I lie about not planning that at the Squad premiere which would have amounted to the same thing at the end of the day? How does this particular conspiracy theory make sense?”Gunnresponded.

Cavill’s dismissal, alongsideBen Affleck’sBatman from DC, has been upsetting for many fans. However, it is clearly visible that the room for the Snyderverse heroes is very narrow to fit in his vision of making a new version of the DC Universe.

How Did The Conspiracy Theory Spark?

Many fans blame Gunn for the dismissal of Henry Cavill’s Superman from DC. The new conspiracy theory sparked afterNathan Fillion’sCollider interview during his promotional tour of the second season ofMonsters at Work. Fillion revealed that his casting as Guy Gardner/The Green Lantern dates back toThe Suicide Squadpremiere party in 2021.

“We were actually at the premiere party after Suicide Squad and he was in a huge crowd of people. We saw each other in the crowd and I congratulated him, ‘Oh, my God, that was amazing. It’s so great.’ He goes, ‘Hey, did Peter [Safran] tell you what we’ve got for you next?’ I said, ‘No, he hasn’t said.’ He looked around like someone was gonna be listening. We were in a throng of people, but he leaned over and said, ‘You’re gonna be Guy Gardner,’”Fillion toldCollider’sChristina Radish.
