Near the end ofSilent Hill 2Remake, the well-known Lakeview Hotel will appear. This hotel has several floors to explore, along with many puzzles to solve in order to progress through the game’s narrative; this location will even have a mini-boss to defeat.
One of the most complex puzzles, which involves multiple layers of discovery, is the suitcase puzzle. This suitcase is located behind a secret passage tied to a book puzzle inside the reading room. This guide will explain how to solve the suitcase puzzle inSilent Hill 2Remake.
Breaking Down the Puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake
To solve this puzzle, you’ll need to reach the Lakeview Hotel section inSilent Hill 2Remake. Specifically, on the second floor of the hotel, head to the reading room.
In this room, you will find numerous scattered books that hold the key to opening a secret passage behind a moveable bookshelf. The main detail of these particular books is that all of them will have a red cover.
Silent Hill 2 Remake: How To Get the Bliss Ending
Upon entering the room, immediately to your right, you will find the first book titled “Stalwart to the End.” Continuing along the right side, you’ll come across another red-covered book on a desk titled “The One Who Soared.” After grabbing that, move to the left side, where another desk holds a red book titled “Revelations: A New Understanding.”
Before starting to solve the puzzle to open the secret passage, head to the far left of the library, past the desk, to find another red book titled “Pride Before the Fall.”
After collecting all the red-covered books, stand in the center of the library and prepare to arrange them in the correct order to open the secret passage.
Opening the Secret Passage in the Reading Room
Once you have all the books needed to solve the puzzle inSilent Hill 2Remake, stand in front of the bookshelf, where you’ll see four slots to place the books.
Place the book “Revelations: A New Understanding” in the top-left slot. In the opposite top-right slot, place “The One Who Soared.” On the bottom-left, put “Stalwart to the End.”
Lastly, to open the secret passage, place “Pride Before the Fall” in the remaining slot. The bookshelf will shift backward and to the left, revealing a secret room. Inside, you’ll find a mirror, and on the bed, a suitcase with two four-digit codes needed to unlock it.

How to Solve the Suitcase Puzzle in Silent Hill 2?
To start solving the puzzle and obtain the necessary codes, head to the third floor, to the utility room. Here, you’ll find bolt cutters, which allow you to open the garden gate at the Lakeview Hotel, as shown in one of the photos from the secret room. Once in the hotel’s garden, head slightly to the right to find the green gate with a chain.
Use the bolt cutters to open it, and proceed down the path until you reach a fountain, where you’ll find a stonefish holding a light in its mouth. Take the light, then return to the third floor of the hotel. In the bottom-left corner between rooms 318 and 319, you’ll find a door that leads to an exterior staircase.
Once you’ve descended, proceed through the white door that leads to the second floor. The first room on the right is room 217, which is also featured in a photo of the secret room. Enter the room, go to the open balcony, and look down to see another red book on top of a glass surface.
You’ll need to shoot the glass to make it fall, then head down to retrieve it. The fallen book will be located in the hotel’s restaurant on the lower-left side of the map. Once you enter the restaurant, head towards the back and to the left, where you’ll find the red book. Inside, you’ll discover a can opener.
Finishing the Lakeview Hotel Puzzle
After obtaining the can opener in the Lakeview Hotel, return once again to the third floor. In room 317, go to the balcony and move to the left to access the adjacent room. Inside, you’ll find a can of red paint on a table. Use the can opener to open it.
Now, head back to the reading room and return to the secret room behind the bookshelf. Approach the mirror, and you’ll notice a broken lamp at the top. Combine the light from the garden fountain with the opened can of red paint to replace the broken lamp.
This will reveal text on the mirror that reads “Deed Done.” This is the key to unlocking the suitcase on the bed. Inside, you’ll find the employee elevator key.
