It was during an interview withBillboardin 2015 that Selena Gomez disclosed to everyone about her lupus. She also added that she was receiving chemotherapy to tackle it. In 2016, it also led her to develop anxiety and depression until she finally needed a kidney transplant in 2017.
Posting on herInstagram, theTaki Takisongstress shared photos from her hospital and with her scar and wrote:
I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.
Later in the post, she also thanked her donor who was none other than her friend cum colleague Francia Raisa- “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed.” The surgery helped her recover temporarily but the problem could not be totally eliminated.
