Actor Sebastian Stan is known for his time as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also slated to appear as former US President Donald Trump in the upcoming biographical drama filmThe Apprentice. Directed by Ali Abbasi, the film follows Trump during his business career and explores the Trump Tower’s creation.

During an interview, Stan discussed playing the role based on the real-life figure. The actor revealed that director Abbasi wanted him to dish out information about the Trump Tower while filming documentary style for one particular scene in the movie. As a result, Stand had to rely on his research about Trump, and here is how he improvised his lines during the scene.

Aside from his stint in the MCU,Sebastian Stanhas appeared in a string of independent films and acclaimed dramas. One of the actor’s hotly anticipated upcoming projects is the biographical drama filmThe Apprentice, which sees him step into the shoes of former US PresidentDonald Trump.
During an interview withVariety, Stan reflected on his work in the film, revealing how director Ali Abbasi wanted to film some scenes in a documentary style. As a result, Abbasi asked him to improvise his lines for one scene where Trump talks about the Trump Tower.

I carried him on my phone, probably 300 videos of him, and I would play it over and over and over and over again until I ended up memorizing a lot of things that he said.
Stan made the above statement regarding his PhD-level research on Trump for the project, which saw him learn the real-life figure’s speech pattern and mannerisms forThe Apprentice.

However, all the research would come in handy when Abbasi’s search for realism would often lead him to abandon the script, including the Trump Tower instance. As a result, Stan relied on the information he had managed to gather from repeatedly watching the videos on his phone and improvised his lines.

In the same interview, Stan admitted that playing Trump was the most challenging gig he had ever taken on. TheThunderbolts*actor revealed that despite his hard work he still wasn’t convinced that he managed to replicate the former President’s voice accurately. He said:
I don’t know if I got the voice right. I mean, here’s the thing, we are dealing with someone we’re seeing 24/7. Everyone’s got an opinion about this person.

From Stan’s words, it is easy to understand why the actor had such a hard time portraying the character. He not only had to convincingly emulate Trump but also had to account for his public perception.

Furthermore, Stan added that aside from watching Trump’s videos, he also watched impressions and other portrayals of the political figure in the media. However, the actor noted that playing a younger version of the real-life figure certainly helped in some aspects. Therefore, it is safe to say that Stan went to great lengths for his performance in the film.
