The Queen That Was is one of the first missions you can access after reaching thePre-Final Boss Phase(where many challenges related to the true ending open up at once).

It’s also one of the easiest missions to complete if you enjoy solvingriddles, as the hunt for The Queen That Was will take you back to theCerulean Expanse(Zelda’s lost forest in disguise). But this time, you have to figure out adifferent sequencein this maze to get to the place where the Queen resides.
How To Find The Queen That Was
Anytime after you reach the point of no return (just before you fight the final boss in the Fleshmancer’s Lair), you cancamp anywhere and talk to Serai. Once you do, you will learn about the Queen and receive an artifact calledJoce’s Belt Buckle.
If you bring this item to your companion, the historianTeaks, anew chapterwill automatically be written in her journal. The chapter is about a group of three travelers who search for the queen in the Cerulean Expanse by going infour different directionsforfour consecutive days.
TravelerBrochuand their team will try to gonortheast, southeast, south, and then northwest, according to the journal. TravelerElbiand their team will gosouthwest, south, southwest, and then east.As for the writer himself,Joce, it says that Joce and their team will gonorth, east, northeast, and then south.
The traveler’s journal then goes on to say that it only felt right forBrochufor thefirst two days, and thatElbifelt lost the whole time except forday 4, and thatday 3was really special forJoce. So the answer is to visit the Cerulean Expanse, where there are 8 different directions to choose from, and then chooseNortheast, Southeast, Northeast, and then East,which are the days that felt right for each traveler as written in the journal.

The Battle With The Queen That Was
After choosing the last ‘East’, you will find atransport podlike the ones used inDragon Ball. Hitch a ride and you will instantly get to where the queen is. It says it’s a queen, but it’s more like a robot from Ghost in the Shell than a queen made of flesh and bones.
Besides her ability to turn into adimensional hand holding a gun, she also hassix bulletsfloating around her all the time. These bullets play a big part in her performing some of her powerful attacks, so it is advisable to get rid of them first with anyAoE attackto save yourself the trouble and waste her turns as well.
Don’t forget to check the chest next to the savepoint at the Queen’s location for an easy-to-grabRainbow Conch. Having all the Rainbow Conchs is also essential to get the true ending.
Once you finish the fight, you will earn the weaponStar Shards, which can be consideredSerai’s ultimate weapon. You will also unlock one of the eight runes needed to pave the way to the true ending, and the game will notify you that you have indeed unlocked the rune in Moorlands.
