During the Whole Cake Island Arc, a new depth was added to Sanji’s character inOne Piece. It made his character arc one of the most well-developed aspects of the series. Even before Whole Cake Island, Sanji’s dynamic personality made him an interesting character to follow. He maintains a good balance of witty and strong, a trait rarely seen in most Strawhats. He lives his life by small and big rules he has set for himself.

To name a few, he never disrespects women or food, and how he never fights with his hands. He never breaks these rules even if his life is on the line. Moreover, his adoration for women is unparalleled. His affection is so intense that it could very well be called devotion. Most fans might not remember, but Sanji nearly broke his sacred rule once early on in the series.

Sanji Confused Fans with his Actions inOne Piece

No matter how sinister a woman is inOne Piece, Sanji is highly likely to adore her. He refuses to attack women even if they knock him to the ground. This happened during the Enies Lobby arc, when Sanji let Kalifa beat him up but didn’t hurt her. Whenever Sanji is matched up against a woman, fans are prepared to see him badly injured but they never expect him to fight back.

In one scene in the series, he defied all expectations as he put a gun against one of the other characters. With this gesture, he nearly broke both the rules of not fighting with his hands and never hurting a woman.

Vivi looks furious with a dark shadow cast on her forehead in One Piece anime

What’s more shocking is the fact that this character was none other than his beloved Robin Chwan! This scene caused some confusion among fans because of Usopp’s statement. It made them think that maybe Sanji was pointing the gun at Ussop rather than Robin. Both the possibilities are out of character for Sanji and the confusion is understandable. However, the context explains what truly happened in that moment.

So, Did Sanji Point the Gun at Robin then?

Seeing Vivi feel unsettled by Robin’s presence, Sanji pointed the gun at Robin. We know that Sanji never fights with his hands, so he probably did that to threaten Robin. He never intended to pull the trigger. Usopp didn’t ask him if he was sure because the gun was pointed at him, but because he knew that if Sanji pointed the gun with the intention to harm her, he was bound to regret it later. This is why Usopp checked in with Sanji to see if he was truly in his senses.

One Piece: Zoro Might Be Cooler But Eiichiro Oda Clearly Loves Sanji More That We Can’t Deny

Usopp got his answer soon afterward when Sanji saw Robin’s face, and his eyes quickly turned into cute hearts. That moment is a great reminder of where his priorities lie. It’s ladies over everything! Seeing this moment reminds us of the endearing behavior Sanji indulged in pre-time-skip. His admiration for women was a mix of chivalry and devotion. It was both funny and slightly annoying.

Post the time skip, this aspect of his character has been completely ruined. He has become a degenerate and his admiration is mostly offensive.Eiichiro Odatook the degeneracy to a whole another level during the Fishman Island arc. Since then, he has gone back and forth between a respectful admirer and a drooling degenerate. It truly makes one miss the handsome Mr. Prince. The worst part about this entire thing is how it ruins an otherwise great character for the fans. Hopefully, Oda will give us some of that pre-time-skip charm in the near future.
