There was a time whenSakamoto Dayswas the most highly anticipated Winter 2025 anime. Unfortunately, just a few episodes in, and the excitement has already drained and the reason is simple: an extremely mediocre animation.

Sakamoto Days Lu vs Obiguro

Of course, it’s not the worst anime, andSakamoto Dayscannot be considered to have a disastrous level of animation. But it can’t be clubbed in with some of the most recognized series likeBleach: TYBW, Dandadan,orJujutsu Kaisen. But is it wrong to expect a good animation quality from a fan-favorite series?

Sakamoto Dayswas failed by its animation

Ever since its debut, theSakamoto Daysmanga by Yuto Suzuki has garnered a lot of attention. It quickly became a highly recommended series, and its art and fight choreographies became its biggest strength. Not to mention, the intriguing plot about a retired hitmanand his dedication to his family won the hearts of many.

Over the years, fans began to speculate about its anime adaptation. When it was finally greenlit in May 2024, fans were overjoyed. However, when Episode 1 of the series debuted, people were unsure about the production. TMS Entertainment has a number of popular anime under its wing, including action-packed series likeMegalobox. Thus, fans expected the studio to respect theSakamoto Daysmanga.

Unfortunately, the anime did not do the manga justice. Battle choreography, the biggest selling point of the series, suddenly became the worst part of the anime. Suzuki’s detailed action sequences in the manga should have made the adaptation process easier, but that was not the case. Lo and behold, fans began wishing that another studio had picked up the anime instead.

Sakamoto Days‘ animation is neither great nor the worst

A large faction of theSakamoto Daysanime fans have been comparing the series to the likes ofDandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, orDemon Slayer. But they have been receiving backlash since comparing would be unfair toSakamoto Days. But if one series is able to achieve such levels of animation quality it is only natural that they would be compared to others.

The action scenes of the anime are affected by an overuse of still frames. The dynamic quality of the movements and the art style have not been done justice. From stiff movements to an entire lack of movement, there have been several complaints about the series.

It is simply an average anime adaptation with lost potential.
