After 20 years since the game first haunted our nightmares, this week sees the long-awaited release ofResident Evil 2through its new, built-from-the-ground-up remake. While the game is out in just a couple days on consoles and PC, Capcom has already revealed that there is plenty more in store forResident Evilfans in the coming months with DLC.
During the launch livestream event from Capcom forResident Evil 2(as translated bySiliconera), the publisher revealed that the anticipated remake will have free post-launch DLC in the works for players in the coming months, starting with a pair of free skins that bring back Leon and Claire’s appearance from the original game in all their low-poly, 1998 glory.

The skins will initially be available in Japan only for those that buy specially-marked digital copies in-store forResident Evil 2, while the skins will be made available to all players on July 15, 2025. As of now, that appears to just be for Japanese players, but hopefully we’ll get firmer confirmation from Capcom of whether that also applies to other territories as well, including the west.
Aside from the new skins, the following post-launch DLC forResident Evil 2will be a brand new mode called “The Ghost Survivors,” which will follow several smaller storylines with other characters in the game. In what seems to be an episodic structure, the first episode of “The Ghost Survivors” will follow the storyline of the Kendo Gun Shop Owner, Robert Kendo, alongside other characters in the later chapters.
From what Capcom showed of the new mode, “The Ghost Survivors” will appear to feature randomized elements and an in-game shop where players can purchase upgrades and gear, incentivizing players to earn higher scores and taking on more difficult challenges. Much like “The Mercernaries” mini-games from pastREtitles, it sounds like “The Ghost Survivors” may fill a similar role of giving players a new experience outside of the main game.
Resident Evil 2is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you want to dive back into Raccoon City and prepare to relive your nightmares, there’s still time topre-order the game now on Amazon. For more on the game, you can also check out our full review.
