WhileRemnant 2’s character creator isn’t anything to write home about, the game does have a fairly impressive number of options when it comes to creating builds. Your character Archetype will always dictate your playstyle to some extent, but you can use things likeMods,Relics, and Traits to customize your gameplay experience.

Traits are passive abilities that provide various buffs, such as increased Health, increased Stamina, cooldown reductions, increased AoE radius, special effects like Lifesteal, and more. You only get a small handful of Traits to choose from when you start a new character, however, you’ll be able to unlock many more as you progress through the game. All in all, there are over two dozen Traits available in Remnant 2.

Trait Types & Differences

There are three types of Traits in Remnant 2: Archetype Traits, Core Traits, and a third category known simply as Traits. Let’s call these Unlockable Traits to distinguish them from the other two. Just as their name suggests, Archetype Traits are passive abilities available exclusively to specific Archetypes. You can look at Archetypes as Remnant 2’s take on traditional RPG classes.Every class only gets access to one of these Traits, however, players can equip an additional one once they acquire an Engram that unlocks a secondary Archetype.

Core Traits are a lot more straightforward. There are only four of them available in the game, andyou’ll get access to all of them regardless of your Archetype. These Traits are pretty basic, but they can still be very useful, especially in the early game when you don’t have a lot of other options. As far as Unlockable Traits are concerned, this category contains the most variety, but you will need to go out of your way in order to get your hands on many of these passive abilities.

It’s worth noting thatthe Archetype Trait levels up automatically to match your character. Meanwhile, Core and Unlockable Traits needed to be leveled up manually using Trait Points.

How To Unlock New Traits In Remnant 2

Generally speaking, you’ll find thatthe most straightforward way to acquire new traits in Remnant 2 is by defeating bosses. The game has more bosses than Traits, so don’t expect to unlock a new one every time you kill a boss. However, they do drop often enough. Besides, bosses also drop unique crafting materials needed toupgrade weapons, so killing them will always be worth your time even if you don’t get a new Trait out of it.

Bosses aside, there’s a chance you’ll unlock a new Trait whenever you defeat Aberrations, Elite enemies that can spawn at random whenever you’re in combat. Players can also acquire new Unlockable Traits by completing quests, solving puzzles, or even simply talking to certain NPCs. Much like its predecessor, Remnant 2 relies heavily on procedural generation, so you’re able to never know for certain what you’re going to get in this game. The bad news is that you can’t predict when (or if) you’re going to find that specific Trait you’re looking for. The good news is that you’ll eventually unlock all of them more or less at random just by playing the game.
