Ready or Notis a tactical FPS that gives gamers a glimpse into some of the horrors that S.W.A.T. police units come face-to-face with in today’s world.
Developed by VOID Interactive, RoN quickly attracted a dedicated fan base that respects the game for how immersive and intense the experience is, but VOID will be censoring some of the most graphic scenarios in order to release the game for consoles.
Ready or Not Developer Responds To Censorship Controversy
VOID Interactive issues a statement after the game was review-bombed on Steam.
To pass the console launch certification, VOID hasdisabled post-mortem dismemberment and made several censorship changes revolving around nudity and violent scenes.Steam reviews for RoN have plummeted to a “mostly negative” rating since the news of censorship was made public, and even though there was only a small list of changes made, some gamers sayany amount of censorship is too much.
Despite the steady stream of negative reviews and community outrage from PC gamers, Ready or Not has skyrocketed to the top of theBest-Selling PlayStation Pre-Orders list.
Reaching A Wider Audience Comes At A Price
After falling in love with the game for its high-stakes realism, the new censorship has somemembers of the gaming communityfeeling robbed of what they originally invested in. Ready or Not is still extremely graphic, gritty, and realistic, and the changes are very minor, but the issue some players are voicing seems to be a matter of principle.
“VOID had promised, multiple times, to never censor the game or tone down the graphic and disturbing content, because they wanted to portray the job of SWAT officers in a city like Los Sueños (the one the game is set in) as realistically as possible, and they couldn’t do it if they censored the game.”
VOID has responded to the community regarding the new censorship and provideddetailed clarificationof the changes they’ve made.
“We’re includingbefore-and-after visualsto show that the game’s tone, atmosphere, and graphical impact remain intact. The effects of gore and violence — key to the game’s immersive realism — have not been toned down.”
While some gamers are upset about the censorship,console usersare simply happy they finally get to experience the game.
“This will be the only game I’ve ever pre-ordered. So excited for this to release ever since it was announced it was coming to consoles.”
Ready or Not will be releasing for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 15.
