Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)

Although thePercy Jacksonfilm saga failed to garner as much enthusiasm and appreciation as the book series, its Disney+ series managed to capture all that acclamation as it became the first critically commended live-action project based on the novels.

Despite being only one season and covering only the first book in the series,Percy Jackson and the Olympiansstill received approval enough from audiences to be continued into further seasons.

This brought about multiple questions: Will there be a season 2? If yes, who would get to play Zeus and Kronos in the second season of the masterpiece series, especially after Lance Reddick’s unfortunate sudden death?

To answer all these questions, here is everything the showrunners had to say about the future of the series and its characters following the end of season 1. Read on to know more.

IsPercy Jackson and the OlympiansGetting Another Season?

To put it simply, nothing has been confirmed officially by Disney aboutPercy Jackson and the Olympiansgetting a second season. When talked to the showrunners about the same, they had similar responses.

However, what’s worth noting is thatthe first season of the Disney+ series was a massive success; much more successful than the critically panned disasters that were thePercy Jacksonfilm series. Thus, greenlighting a second season would do Disney more good than bad.

Lance Reddick as Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)

Recently, co-showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz spoke withVarietyabout the future of the series and echoed the same thoughts. As Steinberg said with a laugh:

“There is an awareness on everyone’s part that the demand for the show seems to suggest we should probably not stop making it.”

During another more recent interview withThe Wrap, Steinberg made a similar statement, all the while making it clear thatnothing can be said for sure for now.

“If I was reading the newspaper about how the show is being received and doing, I think it seems as though something’s probably going to happen. Nothing’s official. There’s a lot of conversations going on. Hopefully there’ll be some news at some point in the near future.”

So, as of now, it can’t be said for sure ifPercy Jackson and the Olympianswould get a second season greenlit, even though the immaculate success of the first season makes it all the more likely.

Who Will Play Zeus & Kronos inPercy Jackson and the OlympiansSeason 2?

In the masterpiece first season ofPercy Jackson and the Olympians, whileLance Reddick embodied the character of Zeus, it was none other than Nick Boraine behind the raspy voice of Kronos that was heard in Percy’s dream.

Since Boraine was also the one finally seen in the season finale — even if as a creepy, grey, cloaked figure and never in his true form — and was officially credited as“Kronos”in the same, it might be safe to assume that he would be the one to continue on the legacy of Kronos in season 2 as well.

In the interview with The Wrap, Jon Steinberg echoed somewhat similar thoughts all the while keeping it all strictly under wraps as he said:

“I thought our friend Nick Boraine did a pretty outstanding job of starting the Kronos train moving in Season 1, in terms of where that character goes, and he will speak with a number of voices before the story is finished. We’ll see how things play out.”

However, as for Zeus:Lance Reddickpassed away due to a heart disease shortly after shooting some of the best and most powerfully perfect scenes of his entire career as Zeus, leaving the crucial and inevitably difficult casting for Zeus in the series to once again be opened.

FollowingReddick’s devastating deathand the end of season one of the TV series, Steinberg also discussed the future of Zeus and who would play him in the series if a season 2 gets greenlit during the interview with Variety. He said:

“Fortunately, we have a little bit of time. Even once the process gets started, we don’t see Zeus again for a little bit, so we’ll have a minute to attempt to find the right fit. It’s not ideal, but certainly, I think his mark on that role will be felt with whoever steps into his shoes.”

Continuing, while he admitted that it is indeed incredibly hard to live up to the performance of somebody, or, like co-showrunner Dan Shotz said,“step into a family and not be so haunted by the shadow of this person you’re replacing”; he also mentioned:

“I don’t think anybody’s looking forward to that, to be honest, but we’ll do the best we can to verify that you feel him in whatever that character is moving forward.”

Thus, for now, fans will have to just trust the showrunners with the plan they intend to go forward with and patiently await the official greenlighting of a season 2 for the superhit series.
