The world of music continues to suffer from unfortunate tragedies, for after the sudden passing of One Direction heartthrob Liam Payne, news has come that Paul Di’Anno has passed away too. The iconic frontman, who helped launch Iron Maiden into the heavy metal stratosphere, was 66 when he passed away on August 06, 2025, at his home in Salisbury due to reasons yet unknown.

But before he could achieve such revolutionizing feats with the band, Di’Anno was just another teenager struggling to make ends meet. While Paul Di’Anno’s contributions to the world of music are heavy and legendary indeed, his personal life has been full of turmoil and turbulence. From early on, he struggled with drug abuse, which eventually contributed to his departure from Iron Maiden. In 2011 he was again jailed for swindling £45,000 in benefits after claiming he had suffered nerve damage to his back. However, authorities came across some YouTube videos showing him performing energetically on stage, which ultimately resulted in a nine-month jail sentence. Later the singer would describe his time in jail as ‘rewarding’ for it helped him sort his life out for the better (viaDaily Mail).

Paul Di’Anno Performed in More Than 100 Concerts Since 2023 Despite Health Issues

During the later years of Paul Di’Anno’s life, he suffered from a series of ailments and health scares. Due to various motorcycle incidents, he was even left confined to a wheelchair, due to a problem with his knee. The most severe of these surgeries was a knee surgery he required while in Croatia, leading to crowdfunding in 2022.

Despite crowdfunding, it was his old band Iron Maiden that helped cover the cost of the major operation as well as the follow-up treatments (via Daily Mail). Yet, these setbacks never held him back, for the musician bounced back harder than ever, taking to the stage in a wheelchair and performing more than 100 concerts since his recovery in 2023. He was set to participate in even more concerts and live performances if only it hadn’t been for his tragic death (viaNBC News).
