Overwatch 2’sreputation has been dwindling through the years, given the massive gameplay and quality of life changes compared to the previous game. Furthermore, the lack of PvE options that were promised before the launch added fuel to the fire, driving a lot of older fans of the franchise away.

However, as the game’s Season 9 approaches, there’s a ray of silver lining regarding the game’s overall experience. There’s a lot to look forward to, and the new changes/improvements might just bringOverwatch 2back to the franchise’s glory days.
What can players expect for Overwatch 2’s next season?
First things first; going forward, the usual 5 wins and 15 lost matches to climb the rank ladder will be going away. Instead, players will have a new way of progressing. A progression bar will be added to let players know how much they need to play to rank up, instead of staying in the dark. Furthermore, there will be a new rank called Ultimate that will surpass Grandmaster, giving players further incentive to play.
Fans of the Competitive playlists will find joy in the fact thatOverwatch 2will now be introducing fresh weapon cosmetics that can be earned by spending Competitive Points.

There’s a lot to look forward to, and the game’s director has addressed it in ablog post. One key fundamental regarding the game’s philosophy has been voiced out:

One of the biggest values of the team is to improve Overwatch’s individual and team focused gameplay to meet the needs of our core audience. When I look at the future of Overwatch, a year or two out, I don’t see the exact same game that we’re playing now, but with a few more heroes and maps added to it.
It seems like ‘teamwork‘ is the foundation of the dev team’s vision going forward, and there’s fair reason for all of this.

Why Overwatch 2 needs major changes
Overwatchbegan as a journey that brought players from across the globe onto a platform where every character had their own personality and gameplay abilities. This was designed in hopes of making a team-based experience that felt fair to everyone, regardless of the hero they played. And, this worked for a while, until the meta became a bit biased, and casual players were struggling.
Then, cameOverwatch 2with the promise of overhauled gameplay, fresh heroes, new maps, and many more changes. The biggest of all was going to be the solid dedication to the PvE experience that would focus on quests and storylines. Unfortunately, much of this was discarded.

In its current state,Overwatch 2is one of the most negatively reviewed online games onSteam. There are several reasons for this, but one of them lies in how competitive play works. Simply put; there’s little incentive and a lot of grind to make it work in a player’s favour. However, with the upcoming Season, it seems that developers are hard at work to change it.
