One Piecemight be filled with Devil Fruits, Haki, and flashy powers, but the plot goes far deeper than just power systems. Eiichiro Oda has woven a tale of friendship and camaraderie in his masterpiece, and the greatest victories are often won through them.

Now,One Pieceis not preachy, but Oda does do a great job of highlighting that destructive powers are not the only necessity in the world. One of the characters who has a deep realization of this concept is Dracule Mihawk, the current greatest swordsman in the world.
Eiichiro Oda Let Mihawk Realize the Greatest Power in the World
Dracule Mihawk is one of the most mysterious characters inOne Piece. He is not seen too often in the series, but he remains a powerful man whose mention can run shivers down people’s spines. So when a character as influential and strong as him admires Luffy’s qualities, you know that the protagonist is capable of greater things.
One Piece Fans Thinking Mihawk Was Afraid of Whitebeard From Their Marineford Interaction Is as Crazy as It Sounds
Luffy might be Mihawk’s enemybut the latter still recognized Luffy’s potential. During the Marineford Arc, he expressed that Luffy has the most dangerous ability: that is, the ability to turn anyone around him into allies, even those who are his former enemies.
It’s not some sort of special power, but he has the ability to make allies of everyone he meets. And that is the most fearsome ability on the high seas…

In fact, Mihawk is not even surprised when he finds out that Luffy is the son of one of the most dangerous pirates in existence. When Mihawk hears about his progress, he acknowledges him as a true warrior and not just a foolish boy.Eiichiro Odahas made a complex character out of Mihawk and some of his actions show that he has an extensive past that might not have been revealed to fans of One Piece yet.
Mihawk Learnt the Greatest Power the Hard Way inOne Piece
Power is relative, and each person interprets it differently. To Kaido, Haki is the greatest power, while Blackbeard absolutely adores those with strong Devil Fruits. Those who aspire to be the strongest look for things that they lack. Similarly, Mihawk realizes Luffy’s talent because he himself is probably lacking it.
One Piece: Crocodile and Mihawk’s Unlikely Alliance Has Revealed What We All Thought About Shanks’ Real Bloodline
So how did Mihawk come to the conclusion that rallying allies is the greatest and most threatening power?A theory speculatesthat maybe, at some point, he was in the same position as Luffy and wanted to aim for something greater. However, he did not have any nakama to support him as Luffy does. He also told Luffy that becoming the pirate king is harder thanbecoming the greatest swordsman in the world, indicating that he might have aimed at the same goal in the past. Mihawk is a solitary man whose only known ally is Perona, who also got close to him very recently.
Mihawk understands the powerthat one can have when one stands amongst devoted followers. He might have failed in his previous quest due to a lack of comrades, and he might still be blaming himself for not being able to befriend people around him. So when he saw Luffy and the potential he held, he realized that it was one of the greatest powers.
