In the world ofDragon Ball Super, it is always Goku and Vegeta who, in the end, save the day with their overwhelming strength. They have been the champions of the series since the very beginning. But one surprise character rose to that level, leaving everyone surprised.

Piccolo from the Dragon Ball series

Piccolo, whom many thought was a sideline character, turned into a powerful being after going through a transformation that would make him a formidable character. Though his transformation is the most merited and the most controversial in the series, the development of his glow-up has got fans debating.

No One Cared About Piccolo At First!

Following that epic fight with Android 17, Piccolo was completely forgotten by the fans and creators. His relevance gradually decreased throughout the series, turning him into a less relevant character. ByDragon Ball Super, he had become just another supporting character who would always get beaten up by even the weaker foes.

The early arcs ofDragon Ball Superwere especially rough on Piccolo fans. He was smacked around by people whom he was stronger than in the prior series, such as one of Frieza’s lackeys who was stronger than the Ginyu Force. Even Piccolo had to break out the truth and realize just how weak he actually was during the Universe 6 vs. 7 arc.

The final straw came during the Tournament of Power Arc, which included his elimination in a rather shameful way at the hands of a bug-like opponent. This downward trajectory made his past accomplishments and training feel totally meaningless to so many fans.

Piccolo’s Unprecedented Glow-up Was Quite Deserved

By having his wish fulfilled to Shenron, Piccolo releases his real powers, finally turning him into the mighty Orange Piccolo form. His body became bulkier and taller, having very distinct red eye pupils and black eye pigments contrasting with his vibrant orange skin. Now he could elongate his body, which helped him in the fight against the mighty Cell Max, though he was ultimately defeated.

This power and relevance Piccolo has found recently inDragon Ball Superare acknowledgments that were long needed for the character’s dedication and hard work. He is one character from the show who actually deserves some mention besides others like Goku or Vegeta. As thiscertain Reddit postalso mentioned,

Piccolo is one character in super that actually deserves to be on Goku and Vegetas level or higher. This man has trained his butt off and while he hasnt trained with gods like Goku and Vegeta, he still puts in as much work as them.

Piccolo has never been afforded the luxury of training against divine beings, yet time and time again, he has pushed himself to new limits in a display of his commitment to self-improvement. It is really a shame that it has taken so long for Piccolo to finally rise back to the place that is rightfully his, among the strongest warriors.

Things have become a lot more controversial though, as some fans laugh at him saying “orange Piccolo” and calling it an undeserved powerup.

But this all was sheer hard work and dedication on the part of Piccolo. Hopefully, this newfound relevance of Piccolo will be sustained along with Gohan, and find their footing in this revamped series that has given fans a fully satisfactory feel for these rather accomplished characters.
