Takaya Imamura, the celebrated former Nintendo artist who worked for the video game company for over 30 years made apost on X this morningwith a new illustration asking forStar Fox Assault(2005) to be brought to the hotly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
Imamura Is The Original Designer Of Iconic Nintendo Characters Such As Captain Falcon, Fox McCloud, And Many More
Imamura left Nintendo in 2021, retiring from the company after a historic 32 years mostly working underShigeru Miyamoto, who brought him on board in 1989.
Originally intending to design and illustrate game box art for the company, Imamura established himself as a fan of both video games and science fiction, stating at the time thatMetroidwas his favorite Nintendo game.

Soon, he was working on F-Zero, designing Captain Falcon, and soon after, he designed and illustrated many of the bosses, maps, and the logo for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (1991).
Two Years Later, Imamura Began Working On Star Fox (1993) And Designed The Cast Of Characters In The Game
After a suggestion from Miyamoto that the game should feature an all-animal cast, Imamura used the combined inspiration of Japanese folk tales and fellow Nintendo employees to round out the series' colorful menagerie.Fox McCloudhimself was supposedly based on Miyamoto.
Today, Imamura posted a black and white illustration of Fox Mcloud facing forward and holding a toy-sized submarine with a text box saying:

Today is the release anniversary of Star Fox Assault and Steel Diver Sub Wars! I hope both will be playable on the Switch 2!
The fourth entry in Nintendo’s Star Fox series and the last to be released on theNintendo Gamecube, the game wasintended to be a return to formfor the franchise after theprevious title, Star Fox Adventures, divided audiences with gameplay that was mostly a departure from what previous Star Fox titles had offered.

Steel Diver: Sub Warswas an originally free-to-play title for theNintendo 3DSthat is now no longer legally available for purchase due to the closing of the 3DS' eShop.
Imamura has, in the past, requested similar things from Nintendo. The WiiU’sStar Fox Zero(2021) was the last game he and Miyamoto collaborated on, and on its sixth anniversary, Immamura also tweeted a request for it to be ported to the first Nintendo Switch.

Despite retiring from Nintendo, Imamuracontinues to work in the gaming industryto this day.
As far as Star Fox Assault and Steel Diver: Sub Wars are concerned, Nintendo has not announced any plans to bring either title to their next console at the time of writing.
