Chapter 1122 ofOne Piecefeatured some interesting revelations, especially regarding Joyboy and the Iron Giant. Fans found out that the robot has been waiting for centuries to be awakened again. But one aspect of the story caught the attention of fans as Eiichiro Oda seems to have misrepresented a detail.

Joyboy’s identity has been unconfirmed for a long time and fans have taken their time to create elaborate theories about the man. Even the small crumbs left by Oda were picked up and embellished to create an identity for him. But in the latest chapter, Oda seems to have changed a crucial aspect of him.
Eiichiro Oda Might Have Messed Up the Giant Straw Hat at Mary Geoise
Chapter 906 ofOne Piecedebuted the controversial giant straw hat at Mary Geoise. In the scene, Imu was present overlooking the hat which was stored in a cold room. The popular theory surrounding it is thatthe straw hat belonged to the once mighty rebel, Joyboy, since it looks exactly like Luffy’s. The size of the hatmade fans thinkthat Joyboy could be a giant, and this has been a long standing theory.
Chapter 1122 ofOne Piecerevealed a silhouette of Joyboy who is seen talking to Emet, the Iron Giant, and the size comparison seems absurd. In the Mary Geoise panel, the Straw Hat is extremely big and even seems like it could fit a giant. However, in the latest chapter,Joyboyis no bigger than just a tall human. His height might even be closer to the Buccaneers, the near-extinct race that Kuma belongs to.

This could have two implications: either Imu is tiny or Eiichiro Oda messed up the size comparison of Joyboy. A faction of One Piece fans have commented that the hat is too big for someone like Joyboy, while another faction is hell-bent on proving that the hat’s size looks askew due to the perspective.
Eiichiro Oda is Not the Best at Size Representations
The debate about Joyboy’s straw hat led fans to dive deeper into Eiichiro Oda’s art style just to discover if the author has made the same kind of mistake before. Lo and behold, One Piece seems to be fraught with a number of confusions, all of them stemming from size comparisons.

A major example of a size mess up is Oden’s sword, Enma, that ended up with Zoro when his daughter Kozuki Hiyori gifted it to him. To clarify, Oden’s height was 12 foot 6 inches, while Zoro is 5 foot and 11 inches. If Oden carried a sword suitable to his height and weight, it would be double the size of any blade carried by Zoro. However, Enma’s size is no bigger than any usual katana and it perfectly suits Zoro’s physique, thus leaving a loophole in the story.

In Oda’s defense,One Pieceis fraught with individuals of various sizes. There are giants, humans, merforlk, races of tall humanoid species and many more. Thus, keeping a track of all their size differences could be hard, eventually leading to mistakes in size comparison. Nonetheless, Eiichiro Oda has been dishing out one great chapter after another, and the latest one explored the relationship betweenthe original Joyboy and Emet. The panels can even make you teary-eyed, if you think of how long Emet had to be alone, waiting for the beats of the Drums of Liberation again.
