Christopher Nolan’sDark Knighttrilogy has been regarded as one of the best adaptations of the character to date. Fans adore all of the decisions taken, even if some changes deviate from the original story, and the filmmaker’s individual style perfectly shines through the three films.

Christian Bale as the Dark Knight

Although he has been credited for the creative decisions taken in the series, several people helped contribute to making a series as successful as this.

While there are a lot of iconic scenes throughout the series, the ending naturally stands out. It was almost unexpected for many fans, considering how optimistic it was for the character. It would seem that the idea of the positive ending did not come from Nolan but from the mind of another respected figure in the world of DC.

WhileChristopher Nolandid headTheDark Knighttrilogy, he had other creative forces who helped him through quite a lot of roadblocks. One such person was David S. Goyer. Over the years, he has played the role of writer on several DC projects, includingConstantine, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, andMan of Steel.

He assumed a similar role in the trilogy, having been by Nolan’s side since the very beginning of the series. During an interview withEmpire, he talked about one of the first scenes they wrote together; which also happened to be the final scene of the series.

At the very end ofThe Dark Knight Rises, Alfred stumbles upon Bruce Wayne, sitting in a coffee shop in Paris with Selina Kyle as his company. The scene signifies a lot for the character, showing just how much Batman had grown to be able to leave his life in Gotham behind and choose himself instead of vengeance.

The final scene of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is exactly that scene we talked about then. […] It remained completely unchanged. We both knew in our hearts that we were onto something special. I have to tell you, having finally seen everything strung together a little while ago and seeing that scene, I got a complete lump in my throat.

Goyer revealed that this was one of the first scenes he wrote with Nolan, and it managed to stay consistent throughout the series. It is also safe to say that it is one of the most beloved and important scenes in the entire series.

The End of the Line?

Although the end ofThe Dark Knighttrilogy was certainly a poetic one, fans cannot help but want more from the series, even though more than a decade has passed. Speaking along these lines,Christian Balegave an interview withScreenRant, where he talked about the possibility of him picking up the cape again.

To the shock of many, he revealed that he is not completely against the idea of reviving the role. However, he did have a very valid condition that could prove to be quite difficult. Bale revealed that he would be interested in coming back only ifChristopher Nolanwas also going to come back.

I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.

Bale would only revive the role of Batman if Nolan found a story that was worthwhile and needed to be told. Interestingly enough, he even entertained the idea of someone else playing the character with Nolan, stating that if Nolan did find a story and thought that Bale was the right person to tell it, only then would he come back.
