Besides being widely considered one of the most influential Latin entertainers of her time, Jennifer Lopez is also one of the finest actresses, singers, dancers, and businesswomen. For a career that she kickstarted with her outstanding vocals and exceptional dancing skills, she transitioned into the acting industry as well, resulting in the commendably triumphant personality that she is today.

But, of all the fields she has jumped in to date, there was one thing that she had really negative thoughts about during the early stages of her now-star-studded career. And, surprisingly enough, this domain was the very one that had transformed reality television star, model, entrepreneur, and spokesperson Kim Kardashian into the billionaire that she is today: Reality TV.

Jennifer Lopez Wasn’t Too Keen On Doing Reality TV Shows Before

ThoughJennifer Lopezhas made her splash in quite a few entertainment fields and worked across numerous different genres and categories, the one discipline she was hesitant to jump in at the beginning of her career was Reality TV. The reason behind this was as simple as is surprising: She felt doing so would’ve ruined the mystique she had created for herself as an artist.

When asked by theAdvocateback in 2015 if she would ever do a reality show about her life, she emphasized the same thing, saying, “I want to act and make music, but I want people to be able to interpret it on their own terms. I don’t want people to know too much about me. That’s the great thing about the old movie stars and singers: There was an air of mystery about them.”

Apparently, Lopez felt it would all require her to share a more intimate and personal aspect of her life with everyone else. While that was that, a few years before this interview, when the offer to present as a judge onAmerican Idolcame to her, the actress was advised against doing it as it was seen as a step down from her prolific film career.

Talking toInterview, she shared the same:

American Idol was a big show at the time. It really comes down to, ‘What do I think I can bring to something?’ When all of my advisers were like, ‘Don’t do this, you’re going to be reduced to just a reality star.’ It was looked down upon. ‘Don’t do that or nobody will ever hire you for a movie ever again.’ And I was just like, ‘No. I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen.’

But, of course, it all came down to her eventually becoming a part of the reality TV showAmerican Idol, even though it was nothing like the more intimate experience of the idea of reality shows that madeKim Kardashiana billionaire through theKeeping Up With the Kardashianstelevision series. Nonetheless, since then, Lopez has gone on to produce her own reality show.

This was the reality show aired on NBC that she developed, served as the executive producer on, and judged:World of Dance.
