Abrams, it swiftly shattered global records, boasting the highest-grossing opening weekend, and joined the billion-dollar club soon after by earning $1 billion in earnings at great speed. Thus, although George Lucas was more than happy to abandon Luke Skywalker, fans are glad everything worked out well in the end for the saga!
