It has been a major few years for Epic Games, and its now-lead title isFortnite, as it grows at a rapid pace with gamers around the world enjoying the chaotic battle royale mode that has been going for over 7 years, but no matter how big the game gets, gamers will always want more.

One of the many items that players hoped would make its way onto the popular game is the ability to play as characters like Samus Aran, Link, Zelda, and others that are only available on Nintendo consoles, and now, thanks to an interview, we know why they won’t ever make an appearance.
Aran Sadly Won’t Be Making an Appearance in Fortnite and Now We Know Why
Throughout the game’s history, there have been multiple collaborations, spanning from other game franchises likeHalo, Assassin’s Creed, and many more to even popular characters from TV shows likeFamily Guy.
This led gamers to wonder why characters from popular Nintendo franchises haven’t made their way onto the popular title after the past 7 years of it being live. Now, thanks to a recentinterview with Gamefile,Epic Games company chief creative officer Donald Mustard explains why characters from Nintendo franchises never made it onto the shooter title.

“Not everyone at Epic agrees with that”: Donald Mustard’s Disheartening Comments Prove Epic Games Do Not Value the Very Thing That Makes Fortnite So Good
The reason that these characters never made it to the game and likely never will is the fact that the company only wants its characters to stay on its preferred console, the Switch. Unfortunately, Epic Games wanted to ensure that the game would be the same for everyone on every console.
Sadly, this meant that the publisher opted out of bringing its characters to the shooter title as it was unable to keep them on one console due to Epic Games’ restrictions.

Gamers May Be Suffering, but Nintendo Is the Real One Missing Out
No matter how you feel about Nintendo and its characters, there are plenty of interesting options that would look astounding within the Epic’s battle royale. Unfortunately, these characters will never see the light of day in the game, at least as long as the company keeps this mindset.

This leads us to believe thatMariomaker could be making a major mistake asFortnitehas been proven to be a wonderfully popular platform that can bring a lot of attention to franchises that may not be as popular as they once were.
However, with the popularity of the many different franchises on its platform, it is surprising that Nintendo is attempting to withhold these franchises rather than banking on them and generating interest in these long-forgotten franchises that were once popular and could be again if they made an appearance in the game.

What do you think aboutMariodeveloper’s choice to keep its franchises away fromFortnite?Do you think this is a missed opportunity or a smart idea to withhold the popular characters? Let us know in the comments what you think!
