Nintendohas announced that it’s ending the Gold Points discount system, as the company enters theSwitch 2generation.
Gold Points were introducedduring the Nintendo Switch generation. Those with a Nintendo Account could earn them by buying games on the Eshop or by registering physical copies. Gold Points had a monetary value, which could be used to buy or reduce the cost of digital games.

After being out on PC for nearly a year, Distant Bloom is now officially making its way to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch.
The Gold Points system was one ofthe best additionsto the Nintendo Eshop, but unfortunately, it’s on its way out. A post on theMy Nintendowebsite has confirmed that, as of June 20, 2025, players will not be able to receive Gold Points anymore.
Nintendo Is Discontinuing The Gold Points System
While Gold Points won’t be distributed from March 25 onward, it will still be possible to earn them from pre-orders made on games that launch later, so long as they were placed before the cut-off date.
Similarly, Gold Points can still be earned from anyNintendo Switch cartridgethat was released before March 25, with a two-year redemption window in Europe and South Africa and a single year for everywhere else.
Luckily, there is still time for Gold Points to be spent, as players will have 12 months after their redemption date to spend them. This means there is still time to splurge on cheap items on the Nintendo Eshop.

The question fans are now asking is whether this is part of a general shift in online strategy on Nintendo’s part, or whether it’s related tothe upcoming releaseof the Switch 2?
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 is backward compatible with old games, but there might still be issues accommodating everything in the same Eshop. Hopefully, theApril 2025 Nintendo Directwill offer more answers as to whether the Gold Points are being replaced with a new giveaway.
